not one left alone in van day or night (yes, that was a stipulation)

No lone caravaners, with dog, allowed then .....

I'm surprised the club haven't looked at the revenue stream

A good point but perhaps they have? If they start charging for dogs then they might lose income from those that come to club sites because of the no charge?

Quite a few actually, but no dog left alone in van whilst member went to pub, out for the day or similar leaving pet home alone whilst owner 'enjoyed' themselves.

I wasn't advocating that they should charge but if there is more complaints/comments regarding dogs HQ should be aware 😉.

If dogs are causing wardens additional work i.e. cleaning up after them, time taken speaking to owners/complainers etc then it is right and proper that the additional work is paid for - not necessarily by the full membership 😉. I am not anti dog in any way.

Could OP tell us which sites he is indicating have a loose dog problem. We will avoid in the future, so forewarned is forearmed.

I don't think it's the site that is the problem, it's a few of the people who may occasionally visit. Having said that some sites may, by nature of their location and facilities,  appear more attractive to these folk than others.

Do none of you ever get asked on arrival whether you have any pets with you?  And if so, do you not then get asked for any details?  Why ask if they do not want to know?

Every Club site we have used in the last 2-3 years, we have been asked if we have any pets with us.  As we don't, I have no idea what happens then.

I have seen the occasional dog wandering loose on the owner's pitch, and I have seen owners walking dogs on site with the dog not attached to the lead.  On the last occasion this resulted in a lot of barking and shouting when said dog got near some other dogs, which was a bit alarming.

The number of dogs on site seems to vary greatly at the times we tour, sometimes we see a lot, other times hardly any.

I don't think it is down to a particular site - just particular owners. smile

On a number of sites I have witnessed owners who let their pouch out for a pee first thing when not many are up. I have also witnessed folk 'exercising' dogs on site. Have read reviews of such folk being confronted by rude wardens as well.

Some folk do beggar belief though. We were on Southport CC site in December a few years ago. A couple staying for 4 or 5 day break pitched alongside. They had three or four bull terriers. Lovely dogs. Now I may be doing them an injustice as they may have walked the legs off them. However all I noted was them being exercised on site complete with poo bags morning and evening. I never saw them go beyond 50 metres. Considering the location and the availability of dog walk areas seemed criminal.

If you answer "Yes", you get given the dogs on site leaflet. That's all, no questions or DNA samples taken, just the leaflet handed out.

So, the ideal opportunity for the warden to ask how many dogs, or whatever, then the Club would actually know what the figures are.

Seems the OP isn't above a bit of not following the rules by one of his earlier reviews! Bit of a run in with a warden about parking overnight in a Club car park! But I digress.......

I don't recall always being asked about dogs, but then we always ask about dog walking anyway when we book into a Club Site, on site walk, if there is one, or best off site walking.

A lot of non club sites ask for details of the number of dogs you will be taking, some charge some don't, no doubt costs are included by whatever method. But it's not a bad idea to know which vans contain dogs and how many especially in any type of emergency or if a problem arises. However if people don't raise the problems at the time nothing can be done to solve the them.

Seems standard procedure these days on the sites we have used.

Warden checks his/her booking record, confirms dates we are booked for, confirms number of people then says "do you have any pets with you?"

OH always books us in while I stay with the outfit, she has commented recently on how they always ask the question, same last year and the previous year too.

Maybe we look like we would have a dog, though not sure how you identify a dog owner by looks!

One glance at the car would tell anyone that there is no room for a dog in there!

I think it varies warden to warden, Brue, in the same way as some ask to see membership cards and some don't. The inconsistency always makes me chuckle.

OH always shows our card when she goes to book us in these days, but she has been asked for it in the past.

So far this year we have only used 4 club sites, last year it was about 12, they all asked about pets.

Some have checked our cards some haven't as TW says the sites vary. We could be bringing the local hound pack in as far as dogs are concerned.  wink

Yes, you would think there would be a standard booking/welcoming  script so they get the info required.

Every year when we return to UK from our trip in  June/July, OH has to explain why our membership card is out of date.  Our renewal is in early June and the new card is of course sitting waiting at home.

.... on the other hand they may already be losing income from those who avoid club sites because there are usually so many dogs..undecided

At the Setthorns site (not a CMC site) that ask if you have a dog and if the answer is yes they give you an envelope which contains information about the nearest vets a poo bag and a biscuit 🍪 ( for the dog)
