We've just got up to a rather wet and grey start to the morning. Tea is brewing!

Wet start here definitely poured in the night too. Just a mizzly drizzle at present. At present no sign of brightening but it's not cold.
Pippah I hope it brightens or at least doesn't rain for your dog walk and lunch.
Off to mum's I fear today we may start to empty some of the wardrobes of her clothes. Can't decide whether best to start now or wait until it must be done 😲😲. She has filled every wardrobe and drawer that once housed 4 people's clothes with ease 😲. Last time I got sent to find an old towel I saw one that I remember being a beach towel around 55 years ago. Certainly a product of her upbringing during the war years where there was nothing to buy even if you had the money and coupons 😉. My parents moved into the house a week before I was born and so there's 60 years worth of 'it might come in useful' stuff stored.
Need to drop some stuff at the charity shop as a result of my own pottering yesterday. Very conscious of not becoming my mother but not good at being ruthless as I can guarantee I'll be looking for just whatever a few days after clearing it out.
Enjoy your day folks and for anyone awaiting A level results I hope the results please the recipient, if not it ain't the end of the world 😉. One door closes another opens etc.

Yes it is not an easy job Bakers. My mums wardrobes were the same and there just wasn't room in the nursing home, for a tenth of her stuff. We did try thinning it down while she was living there but as fast as we put it on the dispose pile, she decided it had to be kept. Once she had moved it was easier but made difficult by the 180 miles between us and her house in Bristol.
In that respect the British Heart Foundation were great. If we had lived closer we would probably have tried to sell some things. However, with the distance invoved it just proved too difficult, as folk want to see what they are buying and not being local that was difficult to arrange. So family had items they could use, and then some strong chaps from the BHF came and moved the heavy stuff. They put bar codes on everything and these were logged to my name so they could claim gift aid back on the sales. There was a very old washer and dishwasher that I had not arranged for them to take, as I thought they would not want them. However, they said as long as they were working someone would have them. I was very pleased as otherwise I would have had to get them into the car and take them to the tip. So a very satisfactory conclusion, all the heavy lifting done by younger backs and a very worthy charity benefited.
However, despite this and several trips to the dump with items just not of interest to anyone, the X trail still made two journeys full to bursting. Most of the items fitted in her room at the nursing home and some are stored here for future use.
Off shopping now, Waitrose very kindly sent us some money off vouchers. 😀 So we will honour them with our presence. Until Tesco or Sainsburys reciprocate.

Actually been warm enough (just) this morning to have my customary cup of tea actually sitting outside, woo hoo!
It's A level results day good luck to those that got their results, feels weird not being in work today for the first time in 34 years and seeing all those smiling faces. It was the highlight of the year seeing students you had taught for 7 years all grown up and ready to go on. You actually saw something that you (and them) had achieved, and more importantly that achievement could talk back, and I am sad to miss it. I had the best job in the world.

Agree 100% with that Corners. The current Y13s at my last school were the last cohort before I retired and I still see many of them round and about today. Our neighbour's daughter just come back with a group of very excited friends clutching envelopes - think there may be some partying tonight!

yes, and it was not just academically either, you saw well rounded polite adults often totally different to the children they were at 11

Very warm and humid this morning, heavy rain overnight. Just done the usual dash round Aldi, quick cuppa before heading off to work and second attempt at VAT return as didn't go well yesterday

Managed to get BIL to hospital for appointment only for consultant to ask why he was there. This was a follow prostate cancer appointment. Then ask why he was in a wheelchair, just had hip replacement surgery, can't believe his notes didn't show that. Never mind, despite the struggle he enjoyed his little drive out. Typically the sun is now shining

Never liked doing VAT Helen or the dreaded VAT inspectors, so good luck with that.
It's humid here, we're looking after our daughter's terrier, she has gone on a delayed camping holiday to the lakes with her boyfriend. Her A level students will be getting their results today (as already mentioned) but I'm glad she's having a holiday, I think she knows how they're doing and will have started on the next lot aready......as well thinking about all the new primary children arriving in September!

I think it could be a loose wire that came loose as a result of a bumpy road.

Decision made; we're off to New England Bay tomorrow. Our absolutely favourite site.
For a whole week! It's years since we went away for that long. But who knows what might cause us to come home early.
Another important decision to make - which Gin to take?

Enjoy your well deserved break Goldie. I've been to the Garlieston site but not tried New England Bay yet, but it is on my list.

Started of nice this morning bright warm and sunny, managed to get 3 loads of washing out, Just had to run out to get it all in as its started to rain
M/H back into garage this morning as the 'oil' light came while we were away, its just be serviced and MOT'd so OH not happy to find it had no oil in it cost £51 for a 5lts of oil from a garage on the outskirts of Carlisle (£18 in Asda for the same ) because the warning light came on (and is still on) its got to go in to be checked over for other faults. There is no leaks and no sign of it ever having had a leak. Still we know the garage and the owner well as I used to use if for the office pool vehicles. The owner is not a happy bunny as you can imagine (neither is OH) so van has now been drained of oil and refilled, sitting in garage overnight just to check it again for leaks. Think the young man who serviced it could be in bother, looks like the filter was changed but oil not changed.
Was hoping to get out into the garden this afternoon but got side tracked sorting out other things, 2 big baskets of ironing are calling but I've gone deaf so can't hear them

Not a bad day here, started sunny, then a shower or two, sunny in the afternoon. Warm in the sun too, makes a change.
Checked car/van electrics, which were behaving most oddly while we were away.......now seem fine.....most odd! Then shopping this afternoon.
Need to go and peel a couple of potatoes for dinner now, then I can put my feet up.

I've a cupboard full - and we sometimes play "guess the gin".
I'm taking J J Whitley's Nettle Gin (not made from nettles), Thomas Dakin Manchester Gin and I think there is some Caorunn in the caravan. And maybe some Adnam's First Rate Gin.
I'm not a fanatic. Honestly!.
I won't hog the drinks cupboard - there's also some whisky and whiskey.
And wine of course. And English Sparkling Wine.
It's intended to be all consumed, but I do like a choice!

Have a great week Goldie, New England Bay is a lovely site, wish we lived nearer.

Well I found what I think is the VAT error, just got to amend the figures to put it right,
Completed a pile of ironing that I have been putting off all week, think I'll take the dog for a walk now, still sunny and warm.

Various drop off jobs on way to mothers. No sorting of stuff for charity shops. Was given the pink label with all my birth details on it, never seen it before. Got weight in pounds and ounces and measurements in inches 😉L 21" for length no problem but SOB 13" & OF 14" are puzzling. Anyone any ideas. I seem to remember circumference of the head when mine were born but doesn't seem to fit with either letters. This tiny 1" x 1.5" label has made no effect on space or future clearing 😂😂😂😂.
Hubby did her grass and trimmed the spreading sage bush, could have made a fortune if we'd had a market the surplus was shout 3ft by 2ft 😲.
Was an absolutely beautiful afternoon we sat at the bottom of the garden and chatted and drinking tea. The farmer kindly didn't start harvesting the wheat in the field behind as that would have forced us indoors because of the dust. We reluctantly bought the magazines tea cups and bits indoors putting the cushions away at 6.30pm when the sky was still very blue and the sun pleasantly warm. Still warm 20.5 and still 😆

No chance of a label for me, I don't think they could lose me at home...
I handed the pink and blue labels over to our grown up babies but can't remember the exact details except DOB and weight. Hope they've still got them!
We are still awaiting the combine too, I think the field by us is going to be last, I can hear it going in nearby fields. I could hear the corn cracking in the sun the other day, like quiet popcorn!

My brother won't have one either 😉
Haven't handed over the two bracelets, one arm one leg, to my grown up babies yet. They're still 8n their baby books. I have taken daughter the bonnet she came out of hospital in and her first shoes over to NZ. I have mine, hers were bigger than mine! Our son's are still in the drawer upstairs with his leaving hospital hat.
