It's model is RMD8551. Even if it had a battery pack, I wouldn't know where to find it or how to change it!

Malcolm don't you have a manual? I, as were my kids, was taught there's no such word as can't! To look at things as a problem with a solution, the challenge to work out how. With a manual and the ability to read and understand you can make a start! As a woman I definitely wouldn't admit I couldn't without a jolly good try! (Well unless it was dangerous to me or others 😉) If it's a battery the manual will tell you where it is, how to get at it, what size to buy, how to replace. Live dangerously and give it a go - if you don't manage it doesn't matter, if you do pop the money you would have paid someone else into a treat fund 😉. If you have to have someone out watch and learn 😉😉

A very slow start to our day 😲. I seem to have ?trapped? a biting thing in the crease of my knee overnight and have some very large itchy bites 😔😢. Managed to straighten up indoors and outdoors yesterday, beauty of a short break! So trip into town for bits and bobs.

Can't say about autumnal earlier but notice the height of the sun by 6pm already summer is fading 😲. It's bright and warm here, yesterday was quite humid or else we are both suffering with hot flushes 😂😂

Yes, if it has a battery pack, it would be mentioned in the manual, with instructions on how to replace.

If no mention in manual then it will not have one.

Another dull wet day here, quite chilly too, not conducive to doing anything that involves going outside!

Now the new drawers below the new oven are fully completed (I still had to put edging strip on some cut edges) OH has taken them into use for oven trays, baking trays, cooling grids and all manner of boxes of baking parchment etc.

The space is of course now much reduced as the oven is bigger, so she will have to rehome her cake tins, meantime they are occupying the worktop.  Once we get the extra units she will have plenty of space.

I am pleased with the outcome both in appearance and functionality, the stainless steel drawer fronts match the oven, so do not look out of place with the solid oak doors around them.

The original cupboard below the oven  had 2 pull out shelves, so I have now fitted them into the adjacent base unit, which already had one pull-out, which will make it easier for OH to see and reach things.  Her shoulder injury makes reaching into deep cupboards both difficult and painful.

This cupboard will eventually be used for packets and tins, thus freeing up a wall unit for more frequently used things.

The eventual new base units, which will be from Ikea, will be all drawers, these large fully extending drawers are a great idea, makes everything so much more accessible.  They will also be in stainless steel, while the wall units above will have glass doors, and the worktop will be solid beech to match the existing ones.

No time to do that before our next holiday, so it will be mid October before it gets done.   DD has also requested help with new cupboards for her study, so it will be a busy time leading up to Christmas!

Malcolm......assuming no battery pack, your fridge operating system and display will, like ours, have a connection to the 12v system, and therefore a fuse on your 12v fuse board, probably a 2 amp one.

Your caravan manual should show the board (or box) and identify the fuses, so it would be an easy job to pull out the fridge fuse and insert a new one, just to check that is not the problem.

If that is ruled out, I would suspect it will either be down to a loose or broken wire, or a failure somewhere on the PCB.

Been a lovely sunny day, smile trip to town for a hair cut this morning, then off to work. Decided I hate VAT yell after struggling with the return for most of the afternoon yell  got fed up and came home, will try again tomorrow.

Malcolm you should really check out all simple things on fridge, could be something really easy to fix, save you a journey if nothing else.wink

KjellNN, glad oven fittings have gone well, it's very satisfying when completing jobs yourself. I know it felt great when our new kitchen took shape,  now hoping DIY bathroom goes as well. Although my actual contributions are minimal, and mostly involve "holding and passing " tools. laughing

Back home again after our 2 days away.

Trike now sold cry along with the trailer, the chap who bought it came up from South Wales. We met half way at Charnock Richard services.

Left home yesterday late lunchtime in drizzle, got across the border and it was nice warm and sunny. We overnighted at Englethwaite Hall, then drove the further 2 hrs to Charnock Richard this morning nice warm with periods of sunshine, pleasant drive no problems on the roads.

Once the handover was complete we drove back home this afternoon, lovely weather until we got about 3 miles over the border when the rain started again yell rained all the way home, still got drizzle.

Next faze of work due to start Monday, 2 new Velux windows in the attic room getting fitted, current ones are 20 years old and starting to get a bit ropey. New ones are much better looking windows. Decorating will have to wait until we get back from our next trip.

Kj your new improved kitchen sounds very nice and practical, I'm going to need a new oven soon and hob. Not sure if I'm going to stay with a gas one or go to an induction hob.

TG, surprised your Veluxes are ropey, our two are now almost 30 years old and the frames are totally fine.   We did have  the triple glazed glass unit  in one replaced by Velux within the 10 year warranty as it had failed, but since then no problems.  The actual window frame was absolutely fine, and still is.

With the aluminium cladding, there is not a lot to go wrong other than the sealed unit.

We still also have the original wooden double glazed windows, with argon gas fill etc, that we fitted when we built the house almost 30 years back, which were the latest thing then.   Probably we should replace them, but it would take a very long time to save the new window costs on our gas bill!

The disruption to fit would be huge, so we are putting it off as the windows are still good and the benefit would not be that great as far as we are concerned.

Let the next owners have the hassle!!!

Walked along part of the river Barle from Tarr Steps today. Supposedly home to dippers, kingfishers and otters. Closest I got to any wildlife was spotting a buzzard on a telegraph pole on the drive there and a couple of chaffinches at the pub where I was treated to a lunch by OH.

One of our favourite walks in that area, CY, along the river to Withypool and back. The pub at Tarr Steps does one of the best cream teas we've ever had, and that's saying something given the amount of time we spend in Cornwall! smile

Warm but cloudyish day here at Bromyard Downs. Spent most of the morning and part of the afternoon down at Lower Brockhampton (N/T) where they've opened up more rooms and have done some archaeology on the grounds round the house and chapel. Well worth a visit. They have also opened up more way-marked trails.

Thoroughly miserable here all day, and cold. OH turned on the CH for a couple of hours, she was so cold.

I cannot remember the last time we had to use heating in mid August.

    So much for global warming!

Kj, we have one either side of the roof so one facing South the other North.

The South facing one isn't too bad but the North facing one has gone black in the 2 bottom corners inside. The outside casing has buckled and lifted, due to ice banks building up over the winter months. We get solid ice now collecting in these corners on the inside, then when it melts it runs down the walls inside. If we don't replace them  it will cause the walls to suffer damp. The new windows we are having fitted are the same size so little disruption, they say it will just take the one day to do both windows. The new ones we are going for are wood but coated with a white polyurethane finish and the surrounds are better insulated than the older wood style ones we have. Surprisingly they are not as expensive to fit as we thought they would be, hopefully they will last another 20+ years. smile

A beautiful sunny end to our day from about 3pm onwards. Sun marvellously hot 😆. But it was rather humid again earlier. I prefer hot to humid any day.

Day of pottering other than a walk into town for mum and banking books made up. Home for lunch and walk to Lidl for few bits. Then treated myself to chair and book in the sun.

OH pruned the conifers and replaced batteries in burglar alarm. Still not working so much muttering and reading of the manual. Then repeat of the same. Another trip up the ladder tomorrow then over to mum for whatever she has lined up 😉

BBC East local news at 6.30pm suddenly announced about 6.40pm they were handing over to London.  Expected terrible news but had the BBC news channel. Was back on for 10.30pm bulletin but made no mention of earlier hand back. Anyone else any idea?

Sounds good TG, your windows are way more exposed than ours as they are on the east side, opposite side to the worst weather.

I think you probably get more snow and ice than we do too.

They are quite quick to fit, I remember fitting one in MIL'a  attic many years back, it was easier than I had expected.

You are certainly doing a lot of work on your house, have you lived there for a long time?

    There are limits!

No heating used since mid April, so I think we can risk having it on for a couple of hours.

A cold wife is an unhappy wife!

And of course, we old people need to be extra careful not to become chilled.

Only house we have ever owned, 28 years now. All previous ones (17) were Army quarters.

The decorating is pretty much every 5 years or so. Last kitchen went in 8 years ago its Oak and still looking good just the oven and hob could do with changing, both working fine just getting a bit tired.

Bathroom OH fitted about 8 years ago still looking good, just freshened it up a bit. Front and back doors also 8 years ago, although front door was replaced under warranty at 6 year point. New back porch is now double glazed, OH built the first one 27 years ago so its done well.

With the injection of cash from us both starting to receive government pensions last year, we decided we would use it to do a few things to the house. We both opened up 5% saving accounts which are coming to an end shortly so pension went straight in there. New ones to open up again.

Had thought of changing the m/h but we like what we have so why bother. The trike and trailer we sold today so that money can go back into the savings account tomorrow until we decide what to do.

Thinking of getting rid of my car (now 6 years old) and A frame and getting a Smart car and trailer, that way if we go to Spain/Portugal for a couple of months we can take it.

No point in not enjoying it, can't take it with you when your times up laughing

We've had our heating on a couple of times now, it was lovely and warm in the van at Carlisle last night.

This is just our third house in 47 years, plus I had a rented flat in Norway before we were married.

I think, when we built our house, approaching 30 years ago now, we used stuff that was too good.......it is still good, but dated, so feels like a waste to replace!

Trying to think what we have replaced over the years......dishwasher, washing machine, tumble drier, fridge, freezer, hob, 2 extractor fans, and a bathroom heater, and now the oven........but only because they had broken down. Mind you, only the oven, hob, bathroom heater and extractor fans were new 30 years back, the rest we had from our previous house.

The oven did still work, but we decided not to replace bits on it that needed replacing as it was so old, plus OH was hankering after a double oven. Now we have it I am pleased with the decision, despite the cost and work involved!

Oh yes, we replaced most of the blinds 2 years back, the old ones were getting tatty.

Ideally we should remove at least one bath in favour of a walk in shower, but OH is fearful of the mess involved. Not sure I am up to tackling it myself, though part of me would like to, then I would know it had been done right!

We don't have woodwork that needs painted, it is all varnished hardwood, so that saves a lot of work. Some rooms could do with repainting, only 4 have been totally redone in the last 10 years. I think OH has plans for kitchen repainting before I fit the additional units.

We enjoyed our visit to Pevensey Castle yesterday. Excellent weather, although a bit too hot at times. We had our picnic lunch in the grounds and afterwards did the 1066 countryside walk. We cooled off by buying an icecream from the icecream van just outside the car park before rturning home in our Smart car.

The exhibition centre within the castle gave a lot information about the history of the castle and the Norman conquest.

We climbed the stairs to the top from which there weree magnificent views of the coast.
