ask for advice -why
why is it people ask for advice and then never come back to read it. ie-Canadian rockies tour of a lifetime. just one example.

Some of the problem, particularly for new posters might be finding the thread again. This is not the most user friendly of sites lately, duplicate threads can cause havoc and even getting into single threads a challenge. (Where's the fire in introductions, keeps returning the road sign) Add to that the now almost useless email notifications, the non obvious way of checking your own activity and non existent search facility, and I think you have a lot of the answer.

There can be all sorts of reasons why someone does not return to a discussion they have started. The points Steve makes are valid. I am not sure where the post is you refer to as I have looked back over several pages and can't see it so I assume it must be even further back. At this time of the year someone could be on holiday and there could be weeks before they reply. If you watch several forums it is not unusual for the same person to post the same question of multi forums. If they get their answer on one they may not bother to return to the other forums. I appreciate that it might be considered bad manners but none of us know the personal circumstances of that person and why they have not replied.

The thread you mention,.or any other, could be 'bumped' by you back up to the top of the searches and then you might, just might, get a response from the OP.
I've been away three weeks and its possible there are posts I've failed to reply to - I apologise if that's the case.

It is a bit inconsiderate 'lornalou1' and you took the trouble to post some photo's, but as it was only 12 days ago I would give it a little more time.
You never know, they may come back with an acknowledgement but I doubt it. If I ask for advice I always monitor my thread in anticipation.

Why is it bad manners could be that the person is busy and works , we don't all spend each and every working moment on here . Too many pointing the finger in my opinion .

I agree, it seems a bit needy to be expecting thanks for a few words after less than 2weeks. Help or don't help-your call

What you can't know is whether someone has returned and read it but not bothered to respond, or whether they've not been able to revisit the thread for any number of reasons.
Either way, it's not worth stressing over.

Maybe the OP uses other forums and has had his/her question answered , I use 5or6 other forums and sometimes forget which one I have asked for help on
it's nice if someone comes back with an update ,but if they don't ,then it's not a big deal for me ....

JVB66, this site is for anyone and i mean anyone to use, whether that person has been a Member for 45 years like you are Advertising , or a newbie. As op said this site has not been the friendliest of late well i can second that . This should not be happening and it needs to stop.

Yes it is nice to know when people have found stuff useful but it won't happen every time unfortunately.
Talking of user friendly I belong to another forum that is really well set up. I get an alert on the page to tell me if anything is going on in the threads I have looked at. I can also go back and find threads I started even a couple of years ago. It never signs me out and as it is medical in nature I do wonder about that but so far no one has cloned me in 3 + years of using it.

I'm always pleased when I don't get a response to something I've said - it means I haven't upset anybody.

I remember that thread; I was going to post some pictures from our trip over there (not in the van!) a few years back. But I can't for the life of me find it now!
But in answer to the OP, it's impossible to know whether a person has come back to read a thread - even the number of views only accounts for those actually logged in.
I do agree, though, that good forum etiquette would be to come back and acknowledge any help given.

Do you know, I think I must be reading a different OP. Where did LornaLou say this site has not been the friendliest of late, please? I can't fInd it.
CT is now a pussy cat compared to 4-5 years ago.

I didn't know that the number of views is only those who are logged in and have thought for a long time that not many people look at this site. I admit I only log in when I want to say something.

thanks everybody. I can laugh at some of the replies as some of you are quite witty. when I need to find something out I post the problem on here or the other club site and know I will get good advice as a newcomer I see you all as experts.

Well, thankyou, but remember that most of us are no more than well intentioned amateurs.
Happy vanning.

I have to admit that I am a some times I do sometimes I don't person but the main reason for that is that I can't respond instantly. I have to come out of the thread, log in and then find it again. Laziness on my part I admit but tedious when only one word is required. I don't look for thank you's when I reply to a post but thanks to all who respond to my advice requests. I will try harder!
