Gerlos Pass Austria
I'm hoping for some advice here, has anyone taken their caravan along the B169 and the B165 to Zell am See in the Tyrol, Austra? I'm looking to go along this route in a few weeks time but I noticed my 2015 AA Europe map shows the B169 as "caravans not allowed" on one stretch and "not suitable for caravans" on another. Online research shows there is a toll to use the Gerlosstrasse but don't specifically mention caravans in the fees, although trucks are allowed. I'm towing an 8m TA so would like some some confirmation before we attempt it.

Have you got a copy of the Club European Guide? It has an interesting section on mountain passes and their suitability or otherwise for caravans.

David and David thank you for your prompt replys. Deleted User User is that prohibition on the Gerlos Strasse or Gerlos Berg, the latter I know they are not allowed but the Strasse is a toll toad that allows trucks.

Thanks for your efforts, both routes start and stop at the same place, so I have emailed the official Austria tourist department.

Just as an update on this as it may be of use to others, I have had a very prompt reply from the Austrian tourist office. They had contacted the company that manages the road and confirm that caravans are allowed, the toll is 9€ per day to use the road. Maximum gradient is 9%. So it looks like the no caravan restriction is on the old road.

Things do change and often only when someone asks the question. I know that in the past a member of Club Staff has got in contact with ÖAMTC the Austrian motoring organisation to find the situation has changed.
