Sheer drops on Swiss/Italian Roads

Need a bit of help and advice. We want to travel in our Motorhome from Lausanne Switzerland to Lake Como in Italy at the end of a August. My husband isn't keen on driving along mountain roads with sheer drops, can anyone let me know if they have been on this route and what the roads are like please.

I suggest you go up the Rhone valley to Brig and then over the Simplon Pass into Italy. That's not a life threatening road, and has good steel barriers on each side. There are videos on You tube showing the drive that way. It's spectacular without being dangerous.

But I don't know Lake Como and I hope others can advise you about that last stretch.

Route as suggested by eurotraveller then south on E62 on to Como...Google maps gives the route.

Look at Street View if you are concerned.

PS. My wife just shuts her eyes at the amazing bits...so swap seats with him and he can do the samewink

Or go the longer way round on major roads via Bern, Lucerne, St Gothard Tunnel.
