Thetford Fridge running on Gaz
We have a sprite major 4 with a Thetford Fridge which is not getting down to temperature on electric but ok on Gas, Our dealer has ordered a element but cannot fit in time for our holiday to the France. My question is how much gas could the fridge use over a period of 18 days? I don't know if I should take 1 or 2 gas bottles.

I use 3.9kg bottles. I know that one 3.9kg bottle lasted me for 10 days. However I did use a low setting (rather than the most cooling I suppose). No problems though and the weather was in the mid 20s in the afternoons.
What size bottles are being used?

I have had a problem twice with a fridge on electric and found my gas consumption increased substantially. This was in a hot climate though.

If you are really running on "Gaz" then you can get refills anywhere in France. If it's a UK Calor bottle, you'll be stymied if you run out.

Thanks for the reply's. gas bottle is 6kg and the fridge is a under work top size, we are expecting high temperatures and hopefully 2 full bottles Will see us through.

Some years ago after a 220v heater failure on a Thetford 175 double door 'fridge (in northern France) I logged gas useage to be one full 6kilo Calor and approximately half of a similar second cylinder over 9 days (before the heater could be replaced). Ambient daytime temperature was around 26/27c - night time much cooler.
If your 'fridge is under warranty you may find Thetford helpful in instructing a French dealer (local to where you are holidaying) to replace the faulty heater. In my case this was at Limoge. The part was in stock. We were ambling through France down to Spain and I was not prepared to chance the gas holding out for the period we were away and being able to obtain replacement cylinders without hassle 'though I carried emergency Camping Gaz cylinders. From start to finish the job took under 40 minutes.

with a 'std butane hose' which has a 21.8mm LH threaded nut on the end, you could use a french bottle....around £10 for rubber hose
similarly, you could buy a cheap adaptor to convert your UK 'POL' (bullet shaped) hose end into 21.8 LH as above...around £5
