We are due to board the Ferry on the 26th of August, hubby has a  suspected Rupture of his Archilles . He has a Boot on at the Moment and is Due at the Fracture Clinic next monday for a  Scan to find out what is actually wrong . The question is do we cancel with our Travel Insurance or should we wait till next monday when we get the prognosis. We have a M/H . So its a stressful time at the moment as we do not know whether we will get away or not ..We have so been looking forward to it our 5th year. Feeling sad.

You have a couple of weeks yet before you need to decide.

We cancelled our Portsmouth/ Caen crossing with a fortnight's notice when our car was involved in an accident and it cost us £89. We had Red Pennant insurance and they advised that we pay the £89 and then they refunded in full the cost of the insurance.

Another alternative is to postpone the ferry until next year. The one we cancelled in May had been postponed from last September when something came up. That cost us £20 to change. Don't rush to make a decision that you may regret.

Do you drive or is hubby the only driver? I think it's only up to you both to decide, but at least wait for the result of the scan .... he might be capable of doing cartwheels next Mon morning  wink

That is such a shame. If he has a  Ruptured Achilles  I doubt he will be doing any driving? I think you can wait until it is confirmed or otherwise. Even if it is not as bad as first thought you still have to take the advice of the doctors as that will indicate whether you can proceed with your holiday. If you proceed against doctors orders you may find you are not covered by insurance.

I am currently 8 months into recovery from. Ruptured Achilles so I really hope for your sake that isn't what he has done.  If he had ruptured it, they will either operate to reconnect it, but more likely most clinics opt for what they term conservative treatment which involves a rigid non weight bearing cast for minimum three weeks and then into a boot with his foot set at an angle, probably for a minimum of six weeks.  He will definitely not be driving for at least two to three months minimum and even when in a boot although mobile he will have very restricted mobility.

i would suggest that if he is in a non weight bearing cast when you go then consider cancelling as mobility is a nightmare and even doing basic things like a shower is impossible.  They will also want him to sleep in the boot.

    Good luck!

I would agree with advice already given to wait until a definite result and diagnosis on Monday.  It's not going to make any difference between now and then, so I would wait.

I know it's upsetting when a holiday you've looked forward to looks like it's not going to happen; been there and done that when OH had to have heart bypass surgery.  Must admit though that any thoughts of the holiday paled into insignificance compared with what he had to go through,it definitely puts things into perspective.  Number 1 priority was that he got through the op and better again, everything else took a backseat.

    Hope everything turns out well.
