Seacroft pitch 93 BEWARE
I attach a self explanatory email sent to Club today. This system will not allow me to attach the photos as they are too large.
Good morning.
Overnight Saturday 29th July we experienced heavy rain, however being on a hardstanding pitch right at the top of a sloping site, did not expect any problems. We were shocked and disappointed to wake up to a flooded awning. Our awning carpet was floating on 2 inches of water, and many possessions ruined. The awning itself had not leaked - the water had flowed in from under the caravan. It is quite clear that this pitch has been laid in a hollow, with no drainage.
This was the only pitch on the site which flooded.
According to other members who had been here for longer than us, this is the 3rd time this season that this pitch has flooded.
The warden was not at all surprised when I reported to him and immedietely attended to help in attempting to trying to get rid of the water, unsuccesfully. Eventually he allocated another pitch to us, and we spent the rest of the day moving and drying out our possessions.
I am very angry to find out that the Club and the area manager already are aware of this problem and have taken no action. In fact I understand that the Warden has been instructed to maintain full capacity rather than closing this pitch. If that is correct, I would suggest that the club are not only putting profit before the welfare of their customers, but are actualy guilty of negligence.
I recently underwent major surgery, and pitching the caravan and awning is difficult enough without having to do it twice.
I attach a series of photographs of the water after lifting the carpet, showing the water and the trenches dug by the warden.
Finally I wish to make it clear that the warden was very helpful in difficult circumstances.
I await your urgent response.
Regards
Paul Hudson

Isn't 93 on the new section of the site and actually higher than the road that runs behind the pitch? Should have been sorted when they did the original ground work.
David
PS Re Photos, they have to be resized to 650 pixel width to load as thumbnails in posts. Apparently there are apps for tablets available that can do this but appreciate that it was not at the top of your priority list given the main issue.

I'm really sorry to hear your awning flooded. I've forwarded this discussion to the regional manager for feedback.
Thank you to the moderator for removing personal details. We do advise members not to post contact information as this is a public forum.

Hello Paul, I have spoken to the Regional Manager. We are really sorry this has happened and your pitch was affected by the heavy rains. We will be investigating this and looking at ways we can prevent this from happening again in the future.

Hi Rowena
I think you'll find that merely ensuring it doesn't happen again will not be sufficient. I will await a detailed email response from those responsible, as I understand that you cannot do anything other than sympathise.

This looks awful, especially difficult if you were still recovering. This isn't the only site it happens on though. We used to visit the Moreton in Marsh site regularly and many of the hard standing pitches on one side of the site food there. On 4 or 5 occasions we have had our awning flooded. On one occasion we waded through it up to our ankles and the couple in the motorhome next door didn't/couldn't get out for hours. We eventually moved pitches and later the next day someone else went on this pitch. They got flooded two days later.

They could be seen as guaranteeing "hard" but not "dry".

A few HS pitches at Littlehampton flood on occasions as well. As has been commented earlier on this thread, given the substantial pitch fees one should quite reasonably expect a pitch that is fit for purpose.

Thanks David and noted. I will take your advice when I return home next week. I posted on the forum to warn others rather than to conduct the negotiations on here. I have already had an offer via the warden, which I have declined.... and I have all the time in the world.

I don't want to appear unsympathetic and I'm sureI will be shot down in flames but actually is it that disasterous? I can see the puddles where the carpet was but that will dry out and struggle to think what other possessions could be so seriously damaged, maybe some shoes got wet?
I do wonder what you would require from the club , is it compensation ? As some other poster said it's part of outdoor life? Or am I missing something ?
ive been away for last 10 days and it's rained every day, the ground gets soaked and things get wet.
Sorry for your ill health, hope you recover soon 💦😄

I own a Lloyds Insurance Underwriting Agency and despise the compensation seekers, so no I am not after compensation, nor do I need it. The things destroyed were mainly grandchildrens stuff that they had left on the floor. Kids very upset is not an easy thing to deal with, nor is wading around in dirty, muddy water. I expect it when I go Le Mans and pitch in a field, not on a £45 per night CC site.
What you are missing is the fact that the club is a Ltd Company and owes a duty of care to its Customers. Knowingly allowing customers to use a pitch susceptible to flooding without giving due warning is negligence. I will not enter into a discussion on here about my expectations, I posted this thread as s warning to others.

I should amend that to say "the unjustified chancers who seek compensation at every oppertunity". Contrived Whiplash, accidents that are no ones fault etc. They cost you all money in increased premiums.
No problem with genuine claimants who have suffered loss or injury through no fault of their own.
