Making return Calis to Dover while in France

We normally book via the C&M web site our return trips to Europe with mainly P&O. This May we had to return early from France due to family illness and got charged a fee so this trip we are planning on just booking outward leg and then booking the return at the end of the trip both via the clubs booking service. Does anybody do this without any problems ?.

Same here we don't book a return ferry, unless at time of booking outbound I can get a discount with camping cheques, then I will book a return knowing that if I wish to change the return date it will just cost me £20 to change it.

If you are waiting to book your return do not leave it to the last 24hrs as some operators will charge a late booking fee, do the return booking say 72hrs before.

Always shop around some operators charge less than the C&MC

That may work with the ferries but I believe that Euro tunnel use flexible pricing and you could pay a substantial amount for the return leg rather than the incremental cost for changing the booking.
