Nantes Caming
Hi all,
I was reading another discussion recently where Boleroboy commented on an Aires near Nantes. We will be travelling from Cherbourg in September and February and think Nantes is about right for the first o/n stop, but the OH is not keen on Aires (we have not tried one yet!), So I have found Nantes Camping. Can anyone comment on this site and has anyone used it in Febuary, I want to make sure that it is open all year as noted in the Caravan Club directory.

I have only been there in summer, probably four times now, but Yes, it is open all year.
It's very modern and well equipped, and all the facilities were updated a few years ago. Pitches are neat and compact, and we were asked whether we wanted one which was "stabilisee" (hard standing) or grass. It's quite central and you have to drive through town traffic to get to it but then the tramway into the city centre stops right outside the gate. Wi-fi is free, and worked well at the pitch where we were. You have free access to the city swimming pool nearby, but in school term time will have to work around school bookings. The site gives ACSI discounts from 1 September onwards - for two people 19 euros inclusive of electrics, but bear in mind that the on site restaurant etc may well be closed by then. Not a problem - go to La Cigale in the city.
It's a good campsite.

If you haven't already done so look for a couple near your destination campsite and at least have a look.
Wherever we travel we always have at least one alternative for the night which on the odd occasion is useful if the original stop isn't suitable.
This applies to sites and aires etc
PS. As always Google offers very many reviews of all campsites:-
PSS Some pitches on the left side of the site are dark and can be soggy underfoot if there is rain about....not MH friendly.

the aire i used was at Rue des Papillons, in Les Sorrinieres, just south of Nantes and inside the bypass....
only 4 bays in a residential area, 200m from Lidl.
it was a convenient 4 hrs from cherbourg as ferry got in just after lunch.
managed to get to Irun from there the next day...
good luck.
