Magazine
Just opened up this months magazine ,not only the leaflets on the outside we now have a booklet glued in in the middle , total load of rubbish imho we are not over the age where we need these products and if we did I would get them over the Internet and most importantly this is supposed to be a magazine about caravans motor homes etc which is in the leisure industry , Once again greed has over taken some people in the ivory tower , we will not be renewing our subs next year just like so many others ,there are a number of issues which don't work for us now , It a shame this was a good club years ago .

Just got ours. It took longer to remove the insert glued in the middle than it took to read the rubbish. Oh and as predicted some months ago our new much improved regional magazine is now telling me how good the site at Longleat is, it's not if you have a dog you cannot walk through the parkland any more and it only a 15 min drive from home and unlike some weekenders/longerstayers we prefer to travel some distance to somewhere new or exciting.
What has happened to our beloved Caravan Club? Soon to be a member for 35 years but might not make the 40 the way things are going.

I just don't understand why people get so worked up about advertising sent out with the Club Magazine. It's all paid for and helps reduce the cost of producing the magazine to members and may even put money into improving sites. Surely the simple answer is to just recycle what you don't want/like?

Exactly, that's what I said in my post so why on earth do it need to know about the oddest plant in the world (page14) how on earth does that relate to the caravan industry, more about the caravan industry would be better and a lot more interesting .

caravan and motor home Industry
I don't really want to know all that much about the caravan (and motor home) industry, apart from a passing interest into which model to buy every few years or advice and new stuff for the caravan. I don't caravan as a 'hobby', it is just a means to an end, to take my holidays in a certain way which fits in with my lifestyle.
We all use caravans and motor homes but probably we have other interests too, probably more varied than we could imagine. So the magazine tries to cater for the main ones as well as caravans, motor homes, sites, accessories.
I'm not saying the magazine is the best available or the worst. It does a fairly good job of telling me about the club and what's happening, where to go and what to see.
But even if it was absolutely rubbish and only fit for recycling I think I would base my view of the club on other more important aspects, ie clean sites, prices, offers, insurance, wardens...
You don't have to open the packet, let alone read it.

the thing is, with a magazine like CC's which is supported by heavy advertising (flyers and in the mag) the more advertising we get the more money the club makes....however, to those attempting to read it, it becomes a worse product...
i 'analysed' a copy of MMM once and (just about exactly) 50% of the pages were adverts.....
i havent done this with the CC mag, but the more adverts it takes, the happier the club is but the more irate the posts on CT become.
personally, i think its (pretty much) total tosh....OH saves a few of the location stories for future reference, i read the 'tests' in about 2 mins and then we bin it....

just had a quick flick through this months mag....including the classifieds, there are 62 pages of adverts in a 124 page 'magazine'..

I wonder if they got the re brand correct. Seems to me the Caravan and Moaner-home Club would have been more appropriate.

ah, the classic 'cant book your whole New Year break in one go' scenario.....after booking the first bit earlier in the year, you have to wait untill August to book from the 4th Jan onwards....
you couldnt make it up.
please, please, please CC, choose a date thats not slap bang in the middle of a peak holiday week.....
suggestion.....how about some time 'off peak' like (say) 25th Jan?
again, a simple admin change.....
to choose 3rd/4th Jan each year is so blooming annoying....
two bookings, every year to stay for the New Year week.....

BB I feel your pain
but isn't it the 4th Jan because that's when some sites close for the winter I remember going away in January and noticed when I did a search that although it returned lots of sites a fair number of them closed on the 4th. If the club were to extend the booking to say the 28th as you suggested could there be a possibility that some members could be 'confused'

Perhaps the date for site closures should also be amended to 8th January which would resolve this issue. As BB says, it shows a lack of foresight in the way New Year bookings operate in the real world.

Alan, we just happen to do New Year later (in Jan, when it happens
) and stay at home at Xmas...however, i would think it equally bizarre (stupid) to choose (say) December 23rd (or even the middle of August) as the break for bookings.....as it is the middle of a popular holiday period....
irrespective of which sites are closed, its the open ones that customers want to visit at New Year, and forcing customers to make two bookings, months apart, to secure the 'New Year week' is plainly bonkers when a small admin change could move it back a week or so and remove the problem.
i understand that any date chosen will cause 'inconvenience' for someone booking at that specific time, but surely the club should be looking to avoid holiday periods.
oh, i did forget about confused customers....
last year i asked the club why they do what they do.....i dont remember getting an answer....though its likely to be ' because we always do it like this'

I think that not many sites are open come 4th Jan? I wondered how busy sites that were open were after 4th Jan. You might be the chap to tell me I expect.

Last year in January there re between 7 and 10 outfits at Lady Margaet both week days & week ends. Is there any need to advance book when sites are so empty? Look at the weather and then decide. Some offers like mid week discount at Lady Margaret might help. but no chance of the tea drinkers thinking outside the box.

I am not sure why they have to do it at all. Why not release everything to the middle of March, the following year, on frenzy day? I assume it relates to the price change. The end of peak prices for Christmas and NY and the start of 2018 prices. They probably have not worked out how much they want to charge us in 2018 way back in December the year before.

The accounts are done in the last quarter, so I presume new prices are reviewed and agreed prior to the AGM statements of account etc. I can't remember when the prices are released? I presume the IT dept then has to ......well er....remember how they did the price upgrades last year.... cue essential maintenance Lego men
Meanwhile someone has to tell the magazine editor and find a nice way of telling everyone it's going to cost more to stay on a site......
By that time booking day has passed and the magazine will then be encouraging everyone to see Canada by train.......
No, I can't work out why the cut off dates are early January either.

For those not wishing to have the 'extra ads' why not un-subscribe from the magazine and then download the Magazine App, which just gives you the main body of the mag. It also useful if you are away on holiday and wish to read what has been posted through your door at home.
Just a thought for those who may be interested.

There's always a page devoted to an overseas 'tour' which often has nothing to do with caravans or MHs. This month is a short rail tour of Canada for a wee bit less than £4k per person
What a rip off!
Easy to sort yourself. Who needs an old fashioned travel agent nowadays? Especially folk like us that are pretty comfortable with planning our own itineraries

I'd have thought it was pretty clear that the answer to your question is no! Surely at that time of year the booking system is in place to enable folk to book if they choose to, not to make it compulsory. If you turned up without a booking at LMP in those circumstances you surely wouldn't be turned away, would you?

You most surely would be if the Tea Drinkers had decided (probably in previous May) that only 10 pitches would be allowed to be in use.
We can't win. It was buit that way since 1907.
