Thanks for the reply, my van is 2015 and my bottle is butane the bit I attach to the bottle would be different if I was on propane I think so I'm wondering what it is for safefill bottle , sorry for questions but your post has got me interested

David the annoying thing is that Butane doesn't work too well in winter. I had none for an early morning cuppa on 4th November one year in freezing Hatfield. (That was when I didn't use the heating either! Brrr) Technically the gas doesn't "freeze" but you can't get any when its cold! So if you are planning any trips out of the Summer season you would probably need to change to some sort of Propane supply. Which would involve a new pigtail - stainless steel is the best as you don't run the danger of rubber particles clogging up the pipes.

A few thoughts from someone who actually has used a Safefill cylinder. If in the very unlikely event the bottle were to fall over whilst you were filling it you would let go of the pump button which would stop the filling, you would then stand the cylinder up and then recommence filling by pressing the pump button until the over-fill valve cut in.

It is done, approved, accepted by the PELG made up of fire officers and leading people in the LPG/petrol world. All the risks have been assessed and they have said YES to filling Safefill on forecourts. All the comments and worries have been discussed by the authorities that govern the forecourts... they are happy! - job done!

Sorry Dave, glad someone was able to help you- I went to the caravan to recover my Safefill cylinders and to clean for the next trip. They are both part filled- I can just top them up and not worry about a part filled cylinder! I'm fairly sure I know how to place the cylinder before I start the filling process!

Addendum: Pippah makes a good point. Safefill by the way is always Propane- that's all they sell at the garage forecourts. Going on to the bits blocking your pipes- always make sure that the regulator is above the outlet of the cylinder or if not possible, then a 'u bend' should be made in the tail so that any residue does not find its way into the regulator otherwise you will be getting a new one! A S/S tail will be good for 20 yrs- the ones with the hand wheel are so easy to fit!

Mad max, welcome. Calor will love you for that!! Consider this. How much gas do you use? If it's one cylinder every 5 years I wouldn't blame you but you have just paid £20 for a 7kg refill which I presume is butane. I can fill my 8.3kg SF cylinder with propane for about £7 - £13 saved and I have more gas. Do the sums- it doesn't take long to recoup your money and you have lightness, no rust marks, you can see what you have at a glance and you will never have to worry about a part filled cylinder again. It's not always just about the price. ......although I see you are from Yorkshire!!😂😂😂😂- no offence intended !!

It does sound good, on refill price & convenience: But i'll probably only buy a couple per year: I wouldnt hessitate if i used more,

We have a built-in LPG tank and have no problem finding garages to fill it but I am not clear as to whether the same dispenser can be used to fill a stand-alone cylinder? The caravan/Motorhome market is quite small and I struggle to see why a garage would invest in the equipment needed. In New Zealand and, I guess, other countries, you just take your cylinder to the nearest garage and fill it up but this is probably more to do with BBQs or cooking for places without a fixed gas network.
I use about 5kg a year in about 6-8 weeks but good news for regular users.

No special equipment needed (in the UK), the Autogas LPG pump just clamps onto the Safefill exactly the same way as it does to a built in tank on a Motorhome or indeed an LPG powered car. For use abroad a range of adaptors (3) are available that enable the use of pumps all over Europe again exactly the same adaptors that you would use if you had a built in tank.

One thing I am a little unclear of is whether the ability to refill cylinders applies to supermarkets as well as other fuel stations?

It is indeed good news Merve, as a fellow Safefill user I hope there are many more outlets like Andys Gas (in Bristol) @ 42p litre!

David, a recent thread on MMM suggested that Morrisons had agreed that its LPG stations would be allowing the filling of Gaslow/safefill cylinders.

When I saw the Safefill cylinder 4 yrs ago and found out what it was all about, I knew that it was the change cylinder users had been praying for and that it was a far too good a product to be killed off by the big boys and so it has proved. But WOW, what a fight Safefill have had! Neil and John must feel battered and bruised but they have won out and we all now stand to benefit.

Refillables are great! We fitted a Gaslow system a few years back as we spend 2-4 months abroad every year and wanted to remove the worry of running out of gas.
We do often go to Germany, where metered electricity is common and expensive, so being able to use gas instead for heating etc is a money saver too.
This last trip (April to July) we filled about 24 litres in total, about 12 kg, We top up as required, usually our way between sites. We have 2 x 6kg bottles, so when one is used up we refill at the next opportunity.

For anyone wanting a fixed system and not sure about DIY there are usually people at the outdoor motorhome shows who supply and fit these systems. As well as Gaslow there is another supplier called Gas-it.
You don't need to have a filling station near where you live as you just fill up when you are out and about. Once a member of staff at a Morrisons helped me when I had only just had the system fitted and could not get the connection to work. Refillable systems are convenient as well as cost effective.

Morrisons seems to be the supermarket that is more forward thinking than others in this regard biggermac. I know that Morrisons were very sympathetic to Safefill when approached by Neil at Safefill and could see the possibilities of this cylinder in the future. . I have also had great help from Morrisons once up in the Lakes when I had a spill of oil in the rear of the car!! They assisted greatly in getting it cleared up for me and giving me the materials to do so. I really look forward to giving them my Safefill business in the future when all LPG supply points are open to Safefill. - like now!!
