Denmark
We're thinking of visiting Denmark on our return journey from Italy at the end of September. Taking the ferry from Rostock to Gedser then an anticlockwise route through Denmark via Slegelse and Kolding and then on to Hamburg.
Has anyone used this route? Any advice on where best to visit in Denmark would be most welcome.

Is that a wise time to visit Denmark? we lived in northern Germany for many years so did visit Denmark from time to time but end of September is not a time we would have gone. The weather then can be just like northern England/Scotland grey damp and wet. Is there even any campsites open then, I know many campsites in France close mid to end of September as they do in Germany.
Don't want to put you off just giving an opinion. Spring ans Summer is the best time to visit when days are long and the evenings hardly happen.

Used to go to Denmark sailing and work, never had any serious problems. We were up in Rugen on the Baltic in March this year and for the most the weather was pretty good.
I'm sure that you will do your research (ACSI etc) to check campsites.
Whatever you decide research and enjoy

Being just across the North Sea from us, Denmark tends to get the same weather systems as we do, generally just a few hours after they pass over us. The weather is therefore not dissimilar to ours up here in northern England. We have been several times during early spring to mid summer and absolutely love it. The people, understandably and for obvious reasons, are very like us in many ways, always found them friendly and helpful. There are some lovely places to visit and I'll post some ideas later.

agree with TG and Micky, spring and early summer are delightful.
Denmark was our first 'big adventure' (four weeks) into Europe after about a year of motorhoming and we had just got our second van.
we wandered up as far a line between Esbjerg and Odense, stopping at the fantastic (huge) beaches on the west coast and then onto the eastern island for a lovely week or so chilling nr the coast.
havent returned (yet) in ten years of euro touring (so much to see) nut we really should, it was lovely.

Many thanks for your help. End of September is our only option this year so we'll keep an eye on the forecast. We're not interested in the beaches (we live about 200 metres from the beach). End of September is often warm and sunny here in west of Cumbria so we'll keep our fingers crossed for similar weather.
From your replies, Denmark certainly sounds attractive.
Thanks again,
Dave N

Used this ferry in 1991 and the car was loaded up next to the train which also came onto the ferry.
We spent six weeks touring around the country during month of August and had great weather. Memories are of big empty sandy beaches, very nice campsites, Copenhagen, Lego Land and pleasant countryside and villages.

Just visiting a Danish friend, so asked him your question.
His advice is that the climate is very similar to Northern England, September is often very nice, but if going end of September, stay away from the west coast.
The islands and the east coast of the mainland should be fine. There will however be limited sites open, but enough to make touring possible.0
