Corners, i wouldn't expect Clarks to sell other brands (except in the outlet store), however i would expect them to regularly review and enhance their ranges depending on fashion trends and market forces, especially if a competitor has done the same.
it makes perfect sense to add a new product (service) to their portfolio should the market and their customers express a preference, this, of course is easily detected from the market research carried out and the customer forums they run.
...so, a bit like CC introducing the booking of a HS to become on an equal footing with CCC and some commercials, espcially as there was also a real ground swell on CT requesting this very facility.
however, i dont see Clarks (nor most other businesses) pulling a new line at the last minute because of 'confused' customers.

Only The Club would know that - even the staff could not be trusted with the new name so what chance a new product.

where did i say that CC had pulled a product...
..they ran a limited trial of HS booking, which came about through much discussion (certainly plenty on CT) and then, just as everyone thought they were going to get something really useful, the club decided the trial didnt warrant a roll out due to 'confused' customers....
as a user (exclusively, apparently) of HS pitches, dont you think it would be a good idea to be able to book one?
there still seems to be plenty of support on CT for the idea, however the issue seems to be the flimsy 'excuse' the club gave for not following it through.

I actually compare the club to Clarks shoes. Reasonable quality, not the cheapest, you know what you're getting etc.

You must just be lucky ...... we're pitched on grass at this very minute (Longleat), the warden advised of their grass pitches when I told him of my loathe of gravel, and it's very firm. As were all the grass pitches at Ferry Meadows the other week.

A scenario
You book a H/S for 3 nights then want to extend your stay but can't because someone else has booked that H/S, do you move to another pitch or leave?
From the clubs point of view a h/s is booked for 3 nights then a gap of 2 night before being booked again, the club may well not be able to sell that h/s for 2 nights so looses income?
Whatever the club does is cannot please everyone. Overall the CAMC does a fantastic job in catering for everyone's needs.

agreed, its annoying for the website to have been changed (perhaps one of the last successful changes on the old system) and then not used due to some 'flimflam' of a reason....
hey ho, if we want to book a HS we'll just have to take that well trotted piece of advice.....' go elsewhere'

surely your example is equally applicable to someone who books an Awning pitch and then wishes to extend....? what do they do if all awning pitches are booked?
this principle is the same as soon as multiple categories of pitch are introduced, however it provides more choice for the customers.
agree its a trade off, but it sounds like the club has decided what the customers want
the club may do a reasonable job of catering for most, however the reasons for withdrawing the trial were, frankly, 'confusing'

yes there are other clubs and commercials about and I'm all for 'going elsewhere' and trying them out......
....but this is not about that, its about telling folk to 'go elsewhere' when they've wanted the club to provide additional services or have queried the way something is done.....
the 'advice' is often followed by a further 'useful' comment suggesting that they probably shouldnt have joined the club in the first place as they would have understood these things at that point.
so, a completely different scanario.

In answer to the scenario you set out I'd leave. However I have never wanted to extend my stay yet so it's unlikely that the situation would crop up for me.
As far as the club being unable to sell a pitch for two nights goes - that's not my problem. It's all very well pointing out a couple of nights pitch fees lost by a change in booking system. What about the loss of all bookings from me from Easter to Sept unless the site is all HS? Quantifying potential losses from those of us that go elsewhere is impossible but what's to say we wouldn't pick up the odd few days left empty?
Overall the club does an adequate job at providing pitches but doesn't meet my needs in this respect

Until the club introduces differential pricing for all types of pitch on offer the only fair way at the moment is for everyone to choose from what is available on arrival.
The club has a pricing structure for serviced and non ehu pitches, lets hope the rest will follow.

But it wouldn't be a problem because you are not booking THAT h/s you are just booking A h/s. Providing a h/s pitch was available you would not have to move to another one.
The club does not allow booking of specific pitches its first come basis.
The situation you described does however happen on sites where they do allow booking of specific pitches.
We have recently stayed on such a site where we were informed prior to choosing a pitch which pitches where available for the time we wished to stay. Its not hard to work a system like that but it can mean that if you haven't pre booked (like us) you have to be prepared to either move during your stay or cut your intended stay short.

The present booking system gives people the HOPE of getting a hard standing pitch.Some will arrive and be disappointed, but the overall number of bookings remains high.
A new system allowing the booking of hard standing pitches will result in those pitches being quickly booked, but those who fail to book one will go elsewhere instead of booking a grass pitch. Overall bookings will be down.
The Club ran a trial and isn't this what they found? So the Club promptly abandoned the trial and reverted to the present system.

It's shame they decided to use it really. A better reply would be we decided in the best interests of all to discontinue the trial

I would have thought that the Club should have realised that people would not book a grass pitch if they really wanted a hard standing, and would instead go elsewhere, no need to do a trial.
Having got the inevitable answer in the trial, to then claim members were confused is pretty much an insult to our intelligence!
The trial was carried out due to members wanting to be able to book a HS, it was obviously a popular option. Far better to have reported the inevitable result correctly and either convert more pitches to HS to meet demand, or/and introduce a price differential.
