I'm back inside the caravan now with the aircon once again and away from the midges! The midges never bothered me in Scotland even though I was warned about them. Perhaps it was the wrong time for them, thankfully!

Millie, I expect working at the cathedral is proving to be interesting and enjoyable. I have thought about volunteering at one of our local NT places but at the moment can't commit to the time needed. As I like being outside maybe I'll end up in the gardens, which would be nice.

It must have been good to meet up with everyone at your college meeting too.  I am still in touch with people I've met over the years that I got to know through various groups, we're spread all over the country now.

Well that turned out quite a scorcher, the thermometer outside the van hit 39c in the shade. We went for a cycle ride along the river where it was a little cooler, across the road  was one of those signs that tell the time and temp at 15.30 it was 42c.  I'm pretty sure this is the warmest I've  been for many a year, still 28c in the van, fans on so it's not unbearable.

Malcolm, although retired I don't /won't sit around waiting for good weather, I go and find it. Life is for living not sitting around waiting for things to happen. I could not have a nap during the day I'm  to busy enjoying myselfwink I'm  one of those people  who believes we make our own way in life, not wait for it to fall into my lap..

Tammygirl 28 deg c in the van that's way to hot, perhaps you should consider getting air con fitted and shut yourself away, MM will be able to offer you guidance (lol).

I wouldn't call 42 degrees good weather. It's way too hot. The body can cook in that temperature. It's not safe to be out and about in such extreme heat. There has been plenty of good weather here in UK without temperatures going to that extreme.

In the last four weeks, I only recall one day of rain during our stay in North Ledaig. One day is not long to wait for good weather. Continental weather is not immune from storms and flooding. We had friends that went to France for their summer holiday last year who said that it rained for the entire two weeks they were there and there was flooding on the site that they stayed on. They said it was the worst holiday they had in their life. Whilst they were there, we had glorious sunshine here in UK.

That's not entirely true, SELL. Tammygirl said in her post that she was cycling at 15:30 in temperatures of 42 deg celsius! That's extreme heat.surprised

We've just got up and put the kettle on for a pot of tea. It looks like another hot and sunny day ahead. It's the last day of my holiday. It's back to work tomorrow evening.

There are Malcolm. However, these are extremes. The whole of Europe has higher than average temperatures at the moment. Whilst folk would probably wish for something a bit cooler, you work with what you are given. As you said last May in Northern France they had unusually wet weather and many sites were flooded, or turned into seas of mud. This year in May we had temperatures of up to 30C and glorious weather. Last September we were walking around central London, again in 30 degree temperature. Agreed you have to be careful, stay hydrated and not spend too long in direct sun. But life does go on. As With TG I intend to live my retirement to the full, and although I will modify what we do in relation to the weather, I have no intention of letting it rule my life.

I never used to worry about walking in the sun. A dab of sunscreen on tips of ears and nose, sun glasses and perhaps a hat. I am fortunate in that I have never had sun burn. Walking in 35c I would find that moving kept me cool assisted by plenty of water. Now my walking is less able with my arthritis I seek the shade and am forced to amble rather than stride out. Yesterdat we were out from 9am until 1pm and then sat in the shade alongside the caravan. For me it beats the hell out of cold and rain.laughing

It's like a sleepy village here. No-one seems to be going anywhere other than to find a shady spot to fall asleep in their relaxers or read a book.

We did turn off the aircon earlier this morning and opened all the windows and awning doors and I sat out in the awning with a cup of tea but now the heat is starting to set in. So I've just closed all the caravan windows and door and put the aircon back on.

Malcom, later on to day we will be going to visit my Mum in the nursing home, she is almost 90, 25 years older than myself. For the last year apart from very short exclusions, to have her hair cut, or for tea and cake, about all she is able to do is sit in a chair and sleep. Make the most of life while you are still able. There will be plenty of time for not going anywhere, and it will sneak up all too soon.☹️

I agree it is hotter than we would have liked but you can't guarantee  the weather, I would still prefer sitting in the shade with a lovely view, than having to sit in the house with the heating on because it's pouring with rain.

Once again you quote good weather in the UK, I fear Malcolm you are like the news and weather people who thinks the whole of the UK revolves are the south of England.  When you went to Scotland you were there for such a short time, we do have good spells but nothing like the south of England.

I wouldn't  want to live there but I don't  mind a visit now and again, I find the south too crowded, scruffy and dirty in places (apologies to those who live there) I have lived there and my eldest son still does, it's just nice to get back to home with clean air and open skies even if it does rain more. I make the best of what we have (while at home) and try not to moan about it too much

Well I'am glad I've not got air conditioning if it means I would be confined to the inside of the caravan on holiday. wink

But no normal person would do that wink use it to cool the van before going to bed yes, but on all day and sit there. As I've  said before false environment to live in. Not healthy.

It's 33c  here just now I'm  sat under the canopy and we have a lovely breeze. We are on the banks of a river watching Heron, ducks and swans smile

H&T have a good trip away.

I thought I would spend some of the morning sorting out my State pension. I have a gateway account, plus the pension activation code but keep getting a very familiar error code. Perhaps the DWP get their IT services from the same place as CAMC. Now on hold (exceptional call volumes) to the help line. Can't do it by phone as for that you have to be within 2 months and currently only 3.

They just answered, it's a known issue across the whole system. We are currently trying to fix it. Clear your browser history and keep trying.

They do get IT support from the same place.😂

laughing Hence the reason we are not there wink must say (again) this trip we have had good weather for almost all of it, a couple of quick but horrendous  storms while at Lake Geneve but mostly sun shine all the way, makes a change from last year which was rain most of the time.
