hello to Italian lakes experts

well we made it to lake como and are set up at la riva in paradise so thank you to those who recommended this site. On thurs we move to maggiore. Journey was fine except for the horrendous road via porlezza into me Mennagio which was zig zagging down some very tight turns. Well what comes down has to go up and I am not relishing the thought of that journey back. I was wondering what the route was like from como and pick up the A2 from there around chiasso? And access the lake at the top b near Locarno and down to xcannobio? What do people think?

thank you

All these lakeside roads have their narrow stretches through villages etc including down to Cannobio where retaining walls on the banked side require care but the route is flat and should be a better bet than your route in. The route down to Lecco on the east side of Como is considerably further and passes through a series of poorly lit tunnels.

I second Tigi's comment. The road on the west side of Lake Como is narrow in places but is used by lots of heavy vehicles and will be no problem towing providing you're careful. It's also good to travel on a different road to the way you came and there will be no show stoppers on your proposed route.
