Oh dear, does your handbook not offer any help, was there not a caravan place near Worthing where you could have gone and asked some questions, or could you not have rung your dealer and asked them to talk you through how to do it? Our handbook has a list of all the bulbs used, they are all readily available on Amazon/eBay or from an accessory shop.
You are finding out the hard way that it is best to have a few basic skills when one owns a caravan!
There used to be a Haynes caravan manual around, if there is an updated one it could be a good investment as it would help with this sort of thing.
At least you have combined the dealer visit with a weekend away, though a weekend sitting in the van watching the sun outside would not be my choice. And Shopping in Tesco (or elsewhere) is something I prefer to leave to OH!
Here in Amsterdam we have about 25 degrees on the shaded side of the van, in the sun it is rather hot, but we have our Fiamma canopy up (we are leaving tomorrow so have just taken the sides and front down and started packing) so we have our table and chairs under it and can sit out in the shade and enjoy the fresh air. For summer it might be worth considering a simple canopy for hot weather use, instead of your full awning.
We too have our air con running, on a low setting, just to keep the van coolish, but we do not sit inside all the time.
Did you not live in China for quite a while? How did you cope with the heat there?

Just got back from a week in Dorset with my parents, great wether and they managed to sit out most days ,although the heat got to dad ,and booked the same chalet for next year ,gives them something to look forward to , a nice easy run up the M3 and round the M25 to home ,but the other way was just solid traffic ,felt sorry for them , now just got to water the garden ,check all the post ( most will be rubbish) and then open a bottle of cider and catch up with all the news
P.S ,nearly left mum in Sainsbury's

Hooray! Arrived at Ross Park just after 12, pitched and set up for the week now, apart from the awning which can wait till it's a bit cooler! Just finished lunch and sitting with a coffee now!
Harry's decided that the shade by the caravan opposite us is better than our shade. Good job the neighbours are dog friendly - they've welcomed him with open arms!!
It's over 10 years since we were here last, a fabulous site, but like many commercials they seem to rely on an awful lot of seasonal pitches. Forgot that they like to use their little tractor to pitch the van for you and just as well really because there were a couple of very tight corners getting to our pitch! Had tsmile when the girl at reception reminded je they don't allow heayers in awnings!
Just going to wait for things to cool down a bit and then pop down for a walk along the river at Totnes.

Went for a nice walk around Clumber lake. About 27 here in Notts, very pleasant with the nice breeze and occasional shade from trees. The lake has a fair bit of weed on it, presumably due to the higher than average temperatures. It can't be that hot as the English Longhorns were not hiding under the trees, as they often do.

Fresh sardines on ciabatta with olive oil and garlic (bit of M&S help with that one.
) Cooked the fruit and ate some of it with some vanilla ice cream. Don't know what OH is eating on the river bank but can't let standards drop back at home.

There was air-conditioning in every room in the flat in China and we had a view over a lake from the lounge area.
Yes, we incurred some expense getting to Chipping Sodbury to get the light fixed but it's not something that happens everyday. We've had the caravan for over two years and it's the first time it's happened.
Our biggest expense is shopping for food!

I had a really good afternoon at the Cathedral. It was really busy but I met some lovely people and lots of the other volunteers as well. The Heritage Festival was packed with everyone enjoying the sunshine in the Precincts and Cathedral Square. Apparently the re-enactors were very good. We had Katherine of Aragon and her Lady in Waiting in the Cathedral plus Old Scarlet, the gravedigger who buried both her and Mary Queen of Scots in Peterborough Cathedral. It looked a bit odd at the end of the afternoon to see Katherine and the man who buried her walking out of the Cathedral together.
We also had Edith Cavell, the nurse who lived in Peterborough who was executed during WW1 for helping allied servicemen to escape. I think we are having a family outing to the festival tomorrow for Fathers' Day.Glad you had a good journey moulesy and are set up. Nice that Harry is making friends.

It's probably just as well to have a day to relax and chill in the van as we have a long journey ahead of us tomorrow. I had a good sleep after lunch this afternoon and so getting refreshed for tomorrow. It will be a busy day as we will have to get the awning up when we get back to Worthing. However, the first job will be to plug in the electrics and get the air-conditioning going!
So spending today relaxing in the van doesn't feel like a day wasted. I still have 3 days holiday left after tomorrow before getting back to work. I hope it gets a bit cooler by then. There's no air-conditioning in the Pizza Hut kitchen! It'll be cool enough in the Smart car though whilst driving to do the deliveries.

Thanks Millie. We loved the area Peterborough cathedral when we were there last year - I always thought of Peterborough as quite a new town, didn't realise how much history it had.
Perhaps you can answer a question for me about the cathedral? When I was working I used to have radio 4's Today programme on if I was driving. It was always about the time "Thought for the day" came on and I used to like listening to a guy called Canon Bill Westwood. I'm sure I saw a stone on the floor of the cathedral dedicated to him. Would that be right? Was he a Bishop of Peterborough at some time?

Yes he was moulesy. He was Bishop when our eldest son was in the Cathedral choir - 1980s. He was a really lovely guy. And yes he is buried in the Cathedral.

Summer pudding is one of my favourite puddings brue. My Mum used to make them. Despite the fact that we lived in London we had a huge garden with lots of fruit trees and bushes, hence loads of fruit.

I've never been keen on puddings using bread. I always preferred the fruit on their own. I hated bread and butter pudding though.
Now I can't have bread and fruit is banned from my diet I have a ready made excuse
We grow quite a lot of fruit, the raspberries are doing well and strawberries look to be forming a good crop.

With my new job at Pizza Hut, I get plenty of time off to enjoy the countryside and I'm outdoors doing the deliveries whilst at work. So that means I can choose days to go on countryside walks when the temperature is more comfortable.
The neighbouring caravan to us here is a family with four children and they have spent nearly the whole day sitting in their relaxers, under the shade of a tree, with their children playing outside. So it doesn't look like too many others are out in the countryside in this heat!
Scotland was a different matter. It was a lot cooler there!

I can recommend it, seriously, it is so much nicer up here than in the south, and a fair bit less expensive!
I /we would not like to live down south, we love it up here!
It is very similar up in Scotland to in Norway, where I come from, so I am very happy here. Not as cold as Norway, which is good!

The north of Scotland must surely be the same latitude as the south of Norway so surely the winters must be similar in temperature?

Perfect blue sky here all day. But far too hot......hovering under 30 degrees.
Still, got the bike out and did about 20 miles. The breeze that produced was most refreshing.
Quick bite of lunch (sandwich in the caravan) then went to Evesham. Had a walk along the river, then stockeup on food for the next few days.
Had the ritual BBQ for our evening meal. What is the point? We have a perfectly good cooker in the caravan. Still, it made a change.
Now chilling, with windows and Hekis all open.

Drat! Another light bulb blown!
Of course that will mean another 300 mile trip to get the bulb changed at a dealer as far away as possible.
We will probably pick a nice historic town, with a pleasant park to walk through. Of course, we won't go there, Instead, we'll go to the nearby supermarket and spend the rest of the day in the caravan. Contemplating our sorry existence.
There's always the journey to look forward to though, when I might treat the wife to a visit to a motorway service area
. Then she can cook me a three course meal, while I lounge in the relaxer.7
