We made a quick trip to the cliffs late today, plenty of gannet, kitiwake razirbills and guillimot. One of the RSPB volunteers did mention an albatross, but no sign when we were there.0

We never got there, we've had our three grandchildren (including a six month old baby) for the weekend - without their parents, so it's been a busy time. Phew, just handed them back.................. but we did see a very interesting looking very dark bee today, pollinating my raspberries. I'm going to look it up to see what it was.
I was explaining how the flowers turn into raspberries to my four year old grand-daughter, and the bee provided a lesson in 'pollination'.

Wish I'd had my camera with me today in Fineshade Wood (Stamford CC). Our Jack Russel went nose to nose in the grass with a Fox Cub. Both stood perfectly still for over a minute, each probably thinking "What on earth are you?" And both wondering how to get round the impasse. Well, Fox was braver than our Jack (named Badger), he turned his backside to Badger and walked back from whence he came. Thankfully Badger obeyed my command and didn't follow the little fellow as Mummy and Daddy Fox may have set up an ambush in the scrub.
On the same walk, a 2 mile circuit from the site, were Spotted Flycatcher and Cuckoo.

Popped to Rutland Water yesterday afternoon, to the Western side. In the middle of the reservoir is a high frame with a large nest on top. A gentleman came in and said to his wife, "there is the Osprey, sitting on its nest". I knew it couldn't be because the Ospreys are nesting on the south side. I took a look through the scope and initially, viewing only the back of the head, I thought, "he's right". Then the head turned, revealing a bright red bill. It was an Egyptian Goose. I didn't know they nested in such places.
Back at Stamford CC this evening, a Nightingale sang. The only one in the forest so far.

Just back from a week's birding in North Norfolk, wonderful of course, but no WiFi on site.
Great views of turtle dove in the car park at Titchwell, it's years since I saw one and this one was certainly posing beautifully.
And just love the cakes in the visitors' centre at Cley!

Just left the far North of Scotland with plenty of good spots. Ospreys at both Loch Fleet and Loch Naver, loads of sea birds at Duncansby Head, including Guillimots, Kittiwakes, Great Skuas, Greater Black Backed Gulls, Shags and of course Puffins. At St Johns Head as well as Eider Ducks & Puffins on the water and flying around, were a few Black Guillimots. Unfortunately we didn't see any of the Orcas or porpoises which had been spotted earlier.

Seems we have the same restrictions where cakes are concerned. Just got back from our first trip of the year to East Yorkshire staying at Blue Rose site. Lovely folks run the place and immaculately kept site. Bempton Cliffs drew us like a magnet wherever we were, we finished the evening with a stroll over the cliffs as the birds came in to roost. What a magnificent site and how do they not collide. Needless to say the folk we spoke to insisted we must visit either Farne or Skomer in mid June and if I follow instructions from the boss, who has demanded to see baby puffins, I might get away with a slice of cake.
Are you staying near Skomer, we are looking for a site closer than Red Kite which we will combine for a two stopper in a week or two time.. Have you made it there yet?

OP, Stacks of Cuckoos up at Altnaharra. We could hear then from 4:00 in the morning till 10:00 at night. We spotted 3 at one time on a telegraph wire. Lots of Skylarks at Mey, which were not bother by us being about. One would walk backward and forward along a turf bank a car's width from where I was sat.

I have heard cuckoos hundreds and perhaps thousands of times, seen their eggs in nests (when we were young and used to go out collecting birds' eggs before it was outlawed) but I've never ever seen one!
We did see a Greater Spotted Cuckoo in a tree in the Aude departement in France - and got a photo of it but that isn't the same. I would love to see one.

Lots of cottongrass on our local moors, looks almost like snow from a distance. Will try to add a a photo, taken with my phone so not very good!

How do I do that?....as you might not know I'm a bit of a dinosaur with regards to computer/photo matters.

Great Spotted Woodpeckers both at Geddes House, Nairn and down here at Banchory today, where we're also back into Cuckoo country again.

Where will this go? Could be straightforward, depends on the photo editing software you use. I use photoshop and it goes like this.
1 open image in photoshop
2 click on image on the top bar
3 scroll down to image size, and an action box opens
4 your options are to adjust width or height using pixels from the drop down menus.
5 change the numbers in the width option until the size changes to just under 5kb
i find something between 400 and 500 gives me the size we need not the 800 stated in the club guidance. Perhaps it depends on the camera pixel count.
best to do this on a copy so that the original is maintained
as above actions1 and 2 but select duplicate instead of image size
let us know if you use another image editor and I am sure someone will be familiar and be able to help

If you're trying to include photos from an android phone or tablet, try the app "photo resized" - you can download it from Google play. It's then a piece of cake to resize photos, just a couple of clicks, literally. Here's one I prepared earlier!

I'm on my android phone now. To post a photo and reduce the size to 500 I go to gallery and click on a photo. At the bottom of my phone I have 3 symbols a square, a circle and and a triangle. I click on the square and I choose the instruction, export. I click on export and I can adjust the size and colour. I reduce the size to 500. Then I go to CT, post a comment and click on add a photo. I choose the photo from documents.

Sorry this is taken a few years ago, but I think an interesting photo to share - two twelve inch long green lizards in full mating colours, fighting in a nature reserve at Aguamolls in Spain. It was a vicious fight, with 'blood' being drawn before the loser ran off to lick his wounds.

I was at Bempton Weds, last week , not many about , the only one i saw was through a telescope a man kindly let lots of people have a view, just saw its face in the edge of the burrow, Lots of folks were saying the birds were on the nests in the burrows and to come back in a few days. Made a mental note to visit about 2 weeks later next time. But it was a lovely day and of lots of other seabirds. You may get more up to date info i wll keep a lookout on post.

Sorry about the delay in replying but CT was down AGAIN yesterday when I tried to log in. Thanks for the info, BM. All my photos are stored on my laptop, on the HP standard package, I guess, so still not a lot wiser.
