Just come back from nearly 3 weeks away in Yorks and Durham. We started at a rally, 4 nights with entertainment on 3 , a meal each night and day time activities all for £55 for 2 people and unit.  Then to a commercial site south east of York for  nights, hard standing with 16 amps and shower block etc, just over £14 a night.   A CL in Durham for £12 a night. Here we had 10 amps and were welcomed with half a dozen eggs from the hens in a nearby  run. Then to Chesterfield club site for £23 a night. A lovely site with welcoming wardens but so crowded and noisy, yapping dogs and loud people. (There were children about many playing on bikes and on and off the roads which was fine but what surprised me was the speed which members drove round the site.)  Next week to a THS at £8 a night.  I am not mean but think if I can save £5 a night over the 150 nights we will be out we can afford a week in a hotel in Spain in January.

There seems to be another duplicate thread.

Waffler, you'd best get your hard hat. Dogs, children, bikes, noise, speeding, site fees all in one post. That takes some doing!

Well, at least he didn't mention early arrivers, late leavers, flags, toilet cleaning times, lazy recycling etc, so he wasn't trying all that hard!! laughing

If, out of the 5 venues, the club site was the most crowded they must be getting something right!

What Club site were you at Waffler? As already mentioned Chesterfield is not in Yorkshire or Durham but Derbyshire. There is no club site actually at Chesterfield. The closest are Poolsbrook and Chatsworth. Based on the price I suspect Poolsbrook, which generally gets good reviews. Perhaps you were unlucky.

Well, I assume from the thread title that it is about site prices and that the rest of the comments were interesting asides.

In which case, I agree that CAMC sites (and to some extent C&CC sites) are rather expensive, for fairly basic sites.

Their sites are usually very well maintained, but the enforcement of rules is often lacking (particularly on CAMC sites, less so on C&CC sites).

Some will use nothing else and so are prepared (and happy) to pay the price. Others chose not to pay these prices and do as you have done for most of your holiday - go elsewhere.

I agree with your sentiments regrading going elsewhere, surely only a fool would pay for something they do not think is good value knowing the price in advance, of course it could be said that it is even more foolish to pay and then come on a forum like this to complain about it.

Anyway moving on, as you have stayed on a number of club sites:

just off the top of my head, York Rowntree, Bladon Chains, Nofolk Seacroft and Baltic Wharf, from your toilets post, so you must have been to these sites if your claiming facts about the toilets, and the phrase top of your head implies having gone to more? And if memory serves me correctly I believe you have stayed at club sites this year?

I therefore assume you are happy to pay the club prices?

    Not so Corners.

I also think that the Eurotunnel is expensive, but I pay it for the convenience.

I think that fish and chips are very expensive at Rick Steins, but we have bought them a couple of times, because they are nice.

I think that Magnums are very expensive at some shops. but.......well, you get the idea.

I have indeed been to CAMC sites when they are convenient (only one so far this year though), But that doesn't stop me thinking they are expensive......nor does it stop me saying so on here.

Club sites are generally in line with prices for commercial ones but do remember the club has to cover the costs of wardens and the like with strict working hours rules and minimum wages. Overheads vary so even comparing costs from one site to the next with similar backgrounds is not possible.

CL's should always be cheaper as they are basically a side line for the owners and not a business and most supplement the owners income rather than provide it. Smaller commercial sites are often family run and this allows them to circumvent the rules the clubs and larger operators have to follow so the comparisons are simply not fair.

Yes you can save money in the way suggested, but that does not mean the club is overcharging, it simply charges on the basis of what it costs them to run the sites and if the sites are what you want you use them. You will find similar prices at C&CC sites where the cost base must be similar and if too many people thought they cost too much then they would be empty.

The previous answers were somewhat unhelpful to the original poster and other contributors, and as happens 'accidentally' on this forum, rather challenging in tone!  (Something to do with the update to this forum, because the 'useful answer checker' isn't working, I thinkcool)

Don't commercials have to pay wardens? Their costs are like the CC. However we now find not only are commercials cheaper but much better value. Before you all cry out I DIONT USE ANY SITES appart from Cls in SCHOOL HOLIDAYS so dont care about peak prices.
