Santander to Girona with caravan

Hi,

we are going to travel with our caravan from Santander Port, Spain to Camping Aquarius caravan site, Girona, Spain. Has anyone done this before? We would like to know of good safe rest sites or camping sites not too far from the motorway. We would especially like to know of resting places/campsites near the port itself, but any other ones en route would be nice to know too. Does anyone have a preferred route? Do the Aires campsites allow caravans as well as motorhomes? We are novices to European travel with caravans, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not done that route before but a convenient site in Santander is Cabo Mayor about 10 minutes from the port.

No, you won't be using Aires with a car/caravan. I still do things the old fashioned way - maps and printed campsite guides. Have you got the ones published by this Club, or the ACSI Camping Card and guide if you are going out of season?

Crossing Spain is fairly simple with a one night stop at the municipal site at Zaragoza. It is not too far from the motorway across Spain and Girona can be reached in 2 driving days. I would agree with comeyras about Cabo Mayor site in Santander and we never travel without the ACSI book in low season.

If you have a sat nav, the co-ordinates for Camping Zaragoza are 41.63808 north and 0.94334 west.
