A nice walk round Bayeux this morning, weather bright but on the cool side. We have visited before, but many years ago. The Cathederal is very impressive, as is the town in general. A bit touristy, but at this time of the year very quiet and pleasant to wander round. We also visited a small piece of Great Britain, given by the French in perpetuity, although acquired at a terrible cost. One thing I learnt today is that the ring road that passes in front of the British Cemetery, was actually built by us in about 3 weeks of June 1944. The streets of Bayeux were too narrow for the Allied advance, so a ring road was needed. The first in France. The area is currently gearing up for the D day commemorations, although the bulk will be after we have left.

Got our house insurance renewal not long ago. It had gone up about £50 so I rang and asked if they could reduce - no, because last year included a new customer / on-line discount.
So I went on-line (same company) and got it for about the same as last year......and £30 of M&S vouchers as well

Steve - we enjoyed Bayeux when we were there a couple of years ago.
Which site are you on? We were at Campsite La Roseraie d'Omaha which was nice. Just a short distance from the American Cemetery - which is certainly worth a visit, if you haven't already.

What's that saying about "red sky at night ....."? Well this was last night's red sky, but unfortunately the weather today wasn't playing ball! After a dry morning - we drove down to a village called Gargrave and walked along the Leeds/Liverpool canal - it's been raining all afternoon.
Still, called in at Mountain Warehouse in Skipton and bagged some good bargains, including a pair of lightweight walking shoes down from £50 to £25 and then extra discount by showing my caravan club card, so all's not lost!
It was market day in Skipton so we also took the opportunity to stock up ready before we move on Monday.

We love Bayeux Steve We used to stay at the Municipal site so that we could walk into town. We have been there a couple of times at the time of the D day commemorations when some of the old soldiers were still alive. We chatted to some of them and one said that he had lied about his age and was only 16 at the time of the Allied advance! Have to been to see the Bayeux Tapestry? It is well worth a visit.

The municipal actually in Bayeux. Nice site, if a bit antiquated. Not in the ACSI scheme, but very convenient for Bayeux. Lovely 10 minute walk into the town centre along the river and then a further short walk out to the Cemetery. We did visit this area many years ago and went to the American Cemetery, Arromanches etc. However we intend to visit them again.

We haven't visited it for some years Steve. After 4 visits to the Tapestry Mr H decided enough was enough!!

We went to Avignon today on the trike, currently staying on a site in Orange, nice day out. Yesterday we cycled into Orange from the campsite easy cycle, lovely town with some great Roman ruins.
Last week we were on the Cote d'Azur at Cavalaire-sur-mer my it's expensive down there. Good site easy walk into town, there was a Harley Davidson convention on over the weekend we were there, hundreds of bikes old and new, they did a show drive around the town before parking up along the sea front to let everyone have a good look at the bikes. Really good atmosphere no trouble and many countries took part.

Your right about the prices TG. My sister lives down there and a few years ago on a visit we went to a very nice restaurant at Cassis, along the coast towards Marseille. Lovely meal on a terrace above the Med but twice the price of a similarly good one we had, sat beside the river and water wheel, in Fontaine de Vaucluse.

Washed the cars and caravan yesterday. Took nearly an hour just to do the top front that was white with red polka dots of squashed flies. I had to give them repeated soakings to get them off. Left the wheels as I was having trouble bending but managed the rest.

Trip around the Servern ring on the Flying Scotsman yesterday. Great trip although over an hour late arriving back in Newport due to stupid people right on the track side. Reduced speed from Gloucester to Bristol and had to stop several times. Still had a great trip. Quiet day today kicking around site then visit relatives this afternoon

I finished work at 9 p.m. last night instead of 10 as they offered to let me go home early when the orders stopped coming in. It was nice to have an early night.
I have two days off now, so we plan to visit the National Trust Petworth House and Park today. We're taking a picnic lunch with us and the weather seems a lot better.

Just taking a few minutes to catch up, have enjoyed reading about everyone's trips, lovely photos.
Sorry to hear your news about your aunt Millie, hope it hasn't spoiled your break to much.
Bit of sunshine this morning, been out and cleaned and then topped up the bird feeders, the starlings are feeding chicks so fat balls are disappearing in a day!
Washing out too, few more housework jobs to do, not got round to much this week. Eldest son sent photo this morning, he's in the Isle of Wight, another weekend away.
Must get on now, spent to long reading posts , still got jobs to finish, Enjoy the weekend everyone.

DSB. Hope you've got someone with you to guide you out, good luck!
Like Helen, just catching up. We've had the rain we needed, big thunder and hail storms yesterday, looking a bit rainy now. Managed to do a quick bit of planting out in the garden early today, whirlwind grandson appearing for an overnight stay, busy day ahead. Then a holiday!

It's been another day with a beautiful sunny morning followed by a wet afternoon!
We got out early to walk from Grassington along the River Wharfe, past Ghastril's Stride and onto Linton Falls. Both are normally spectacular sights but the river is so low at the moment that they don't appear dramatic at all!
