Not yet had our 2017 holiday, the tunnel crossing and a riverside pitch is booked on the Moselle; but now starting to plan for 2018. Hopefully we will be going to Latvia and staying for 3-4weeks. We will be staying at our friend’s farm (long story) in the small village of Jaunpils, 100km west of Riga. They have a guesthouse with a tent camping ground, the caravan can be pitched near to the guesthouse and will be able to get the EHU lead to a power supply, also from the caravan it is easy for an early morning swim in the pond which we have done many a time, the guesthouse also has a sauna and yes, we have been in the pond when it was -5c, on a warm winters night. We can also secure the caravan and leave it for a couple of days while visiting relatives who live in Jekabpils in the south east of Latvia and stay in a hotel we have used many a time.

It just shows why the Latvians come here to get a decent wage when it is that cheap in their own countries and so much lower costs and wages so lowwink

True, our friend came to visit us 2 months ago and our prices shocked her.

It looks lovely Chris, nice to have friends in different places. smile How long would it take you to get there with the van?

There was a bit on the TV some weeks ago about how their HGV drivers are spending weeks in their cabs to earn a wage, because of the way they are treated, and EU regulations ignored

5 euros is 4.29 UK pounds. Slightly less than some CLs which charge £5 per night here. Chris has relatives in Latvia, it's good to see other more distant  EU countries being promoted for holidays.smile

That's what I need to plan, maybe 3 or 4 overnight stops out and back but need to stop in France to get the dogs tapeworm tablets and passport stamped on the way back. Also, I could arrive in the middle of the night if needed, not like a campsite!

I also think it is good to promote more distant eu countries but it is no good "compareing"costs? when the costs and standard of "living" is also far removed for the majority in those countrieswink
