It's every person's choice to what sort of leisure vehicle they use ,and to where they take them ,and those of us who have had most types will understand the "pitfalls"of them when compairing ,which one suits our present lifestyle ,there are upsides and downsides off all types,   nothing has yet come on the market that comes near a one type suits all and dought that it ever will surprised

I agree with you completely. Both have advantages and disadvantages and at the moment for us the disadvantages of a MH outweigh the advantages of having a caravan. But I wouldn't keep having a go at MHers by keep posting these advantages at every opportunity. I assume that people have done their homework and chosen what is best for them,

To me it does not matter what is pitched next to me on site, caravan, MH, pod, boat, or if it were possible, tent or igloo. I have my pitch and you have yours to do with as you will.

Going back to the OP, no I would not want level pitches to be MH only. Caravaners like level pitches too, we don't delight in finding we have to level sideways, and the fact that we, or rather a caravan, is better and easier at being levelled (if I was the sort to post advantages with a wink there's definitely one) is no reason to stop us having level pitches.

Is shouldn't matter if it's a caravan or motorhome ,we should all have a level playing field cool (see what I did there)

Oh i see what you mean what your saying is its a better made caravan body thats been put together in a different way on a commercial vehicle chassis than we have in the UK well that makes all the difference.. i agree its probably better quality than we produce in the UK but thats not exactly hard is it when you look at the standard thats turned out by some of the makers. As regards "half a day" lets keep it realistic the construction of these caravans and motorhomes aint rocket science. At the end of the day nomatter how its put together or how good the quality is its a caravan body on a commercial vehicle chassis.Fact.

Try a caravan body on a commercial vehicle chassis, V9, and see how long it lasts before it falls apart.

I was not trying to make an argument in favour of vans over MH just saying that due to the price differential I do not think the ownership ratios will change much.

As most are saying it's a personal choice but with my two MH friends having large Autotrail MH with a price over £70k that's a lot of money to pay whatever the reason.

I did say 'may' as I know several people with van conversions which were done purely for cost reasons.

But most British leisure vehicles as most europeon vehicles will all use the same heating /cooking/windows/ blinds /toilets and chassis /base vehicles,  so it may just be some of the furniture and fittings that are model/make specific

I think after owning three over twelve years Coachbuilt "A" Class and Panel Vans of differing makes, its a reasonable amount of experience to make the comment!

Three unlucky attempts I reckon. We have no rattles and neither have others. It's what you make it I guess with a little application.

tigi, sorry you've had three rattly vans.....it shouldnt be down to luck, customers should be able to bank on getting a van thats a pleasure to drive/use and doesnt leak.

JVB, as you well know, using the same Dometic fridge/freezer or a toilet or cooker across brands doesn't mean sharing the same construction materials/process and certainly doesnt mean the same quality control preccesses....thank goodness.

hymer came up with PU-AL construction technique decades ago and even they cant improve on it.....its in use across the ranges today.

most of the continental manufacturers soon realised how good it was and latched on pretty quickly with their own (tweaked) versions.

however, the Brits kept building (cheaper) 'caravan bodies on commercial vehicle chassis', hence the appalling quality levels.

even as recently as 2010 there were loads of complaints about the then top selling Bolero....great van and layout but hopeless at keeping road damp from getting into the plywood floor...i had one, but kept on top of this known issue.

now, swift are in the their umpteenth iteration of their latest 'smart'undecided process, yet still there are issues on Swifttalk.

Bailey dont seem to be getting any better with their Alutech thing....just look at the swimming pool in the overcab video.....undecided

I think the Birmingham shows are better than a dealer,  and still could only see exactly the same equipment on the same base vehicles and on Alko chassis as any leisure vehicle on the majority of those on display

I just need to nip outside and tell my 2002 Autotrail Tracker that it's a load of rubbish.

During my 10 years of ownership it has been as reliable and virtually as fault free as all the caravans/cars I have owned over the last 50+ years.

PS. I did the above and it simply told me to p.... off !!!surprisedlaughing

This thread has shown what a petty lot some of you are. People with "high class" vehicles trying to belittle "lower class" vehicles! I've never read such childish rubbish. You are a disgrace to the camping fraternity. Oh sorry. You don't call it camping do you.

We have a 5 M hose we use 90% of time a 15 M hose 10% of the time, (can join to give 20 M never needed that so far) we also have a watering can to keep topped up if need be.

We have and use a waste hog for gray water, just our way of doing things we don't have to wait for a free point at end of stay can just empty hog and go.

So far we have never been on a pitch we ant get level enough to do for a few days which is about as long as we tend to stay in one place.

No problems as far as i know, we have had both and much prefer motor home but it just fits in with our camping, dosn't mean it is right or wrong just right for us.
