Things motorhomes need that caravans don't

Very perceptive Bugs!

perhaps not (specifically) but i did say that one thing a MH doesnt need os a towcar.....for the same reason.

And there was me believing that as quoted to me by warden friends when they ran an all grass site "when ground a bit soft we get ready with long rope and our big tractor when a motor caravan is getting ready to leave as otherwise we end up with another deep rutted pitch"

Nope, only engine and tyre noise when on the road.

you make it sound that every MH is towing a car, simply not true.
there are over 20 Mh and PVCs here and ive only seen one enclosed trailer (and havent discovered whats in it as it is wide but very low....sports car?) and no A-frames.
in general, MHs have one engine, at the front
dont caravans have their own engine....motor mover.....hence two engines

youve obviously never been in a proper MH
rattles? what rattles?

You're starting to sound anti MH, JVB.

I know.
We've done both as well which is why I wouldn't knock one or the other.

no, i know what a proper van sounds like.......really quiet.
dont know what sort of noisy old things you seem to be on about..what type did you have, did they all rattle?

Really? In that case the 'don't knows' will be rather confused.

In reality, a motorhome and even many campervans are self contained. If you have a gas supply, you need nothing extra to use it, not even an EHU lead or solar panel if you choose to rely on the engine to keep your battery charged. Carrying hoses, buckets, water refil devices, grip mats, towing a car or carrying a bike or any other extras are all options that you can do without if you choose to. Most of these extras are carried simply to overcome site differences and to make life on your travels easier

An interesting take on the Motorhomes/Caravan theme is from our friends, who say, based on the sort of people they've met over many years of tent camping, they think 'People in caravans are more likely to be borning, a bit geeky, members of the Caravan Club..............where those in motorhomes seem to be more open to new experiences and more interesting to talk to'! However, they did add 'You two excepted, of course'. I wonder how they'll react to the change of name to the Caravan and Motorhome Club.
They've just bought a small motorhome from other friends of ours who had a caravan, who had bought a motorhome, but decided they preferred the caravan.
Perhaps both motorhome owners and caravanners need a bit of tolerance?

Motorhomes MAY need an owner with deeper pockets which is why I don't think there will ever be parity in the numbers sold.
When we look at MHs, with friends who have one, at shows we are looking at £20-22k vans they at £68-70k MH. Maybe that's the reason fir the 3 to 1 ratio?!

Totally agree.MH,s are in my opinion way overpriced and always have been.In reality they are a caravan body mounted on the chassis of a commercial pickup so why are they so expencive ?.I realised many years ago that i could buy a very good tow car and a very good van for far less than a similar size of MH and the position is still the same today.I suppose some drivers never come to terms with towing and i can understand that as its each to his own at the end of the day.

This arguement keeps coming up! I don't believe it to be the case and I have owned both. Even if it was, its the price of convenience over a caravan and the maintenance and insurance of two vehicles. Incidently I'm betting the members now owning motorhomes in the Club is now closer to 40 percent.

Caravanners sit in chairs and sunbathe every day....Motorhomers travel....Sorry I followed all the off topic comments
The cost comparison can be remarkably close and certainly far less than £1.000 a year.
The first sentence is possible not 100% true but the second sentence really is!

Gosh this thread is starting to sound a bit like mine is bigger than yours does it really matter that some have caravans and some have m/h's. We've had both and they both have advantages and disadvantages. Surely it's about what suits you at the time. We have our ebikes and a trike on a trailer with us this time because it suits us for the places we are visiting, it could have been just the bikes, it's all about choice.
Getting back to the OP it would seem a good sense of humour is required by both groups if you take this thread into account.
Some CL's are better than others when it comes to m/h's a bit of checking is sometimes advisable, weather conditions if all grass being the main problem springs to mind, however even full sites suffer this.
