Where are the Mods?
Where have the Mods gone ?, on the old CT you only had to post something out of context and out they came 
, now we have the new CT ,you just don't see e'm, perhaps we are behaving our self's better

It's the staff mods who puzzle me. What are they doing?

I'm always here both moderating and posting. The moderating tasks have fortunately been more of a mundane nature which is good like moving posts and trying to keep on the right side of how the forum works!!!

Perhaps there are less post that need moderating. Members are maybe posting their questions/points in the correct section.

Only recognise 3 of the Mods mentioned out with the staff, have the others given up and not been replaced I wonder?

I don't think any have given up, Phil, but it would be understandable if they had in view of the difficulties of working with this site.

Personally, I haven't been able to spend as much time here lately (or on other forums I frequent) due to various reasons, but to answer the question in the post further up - nope, I haven't "given up" and the situation is temporary.

What do you want them to do Ian? Don't forget there are limitations to the controls they have, as opposed to what HQ staff can do. The forum is very very quiet compared to a couple of years ago, some threads barely move for weeks on end. I doubt the mods can close or merge duplicate threads as surely this would have been done on a more regular basis?

Yes, I agree that the forum seems to be dying a slow death and there is probably less need for moderation (with a few notable axceptions).
I was just commenting on the fact that two or three mods are relatively active, one or two just post as regular posters and the rest are barely (if at all) active.
I wonder why they put themselves forward as mods and then never do anything, that's all?

As a matter of interest, Ian, do you read every post? If not perhaps one or two of the mods have been active but you've not read the relevant sections. If you do read all the post you must have a very sad life, IMO

No I don't read every post, I was jusrt commenting on what I see......as I'm entitled to do.
But no doubt you will be able to point out all the posts from Dave Waring, Dianne T and Riggers........whoever they are.

Re Mods, they are volunteers, no payment, they do what they do because they want to. If they are not inclined to 'mod' then surely that is there prerogative Ian. It's not our business

Not me Ian, I don't have the time or inclination to read all sections, although I do know that at least one does post/moderate in the Overseas section.

I don't think it is dying, it has just evolved as these things do. I suspect quite a few regular posters decided things were just too much hard work after the website update, others are absent for other reasons. The technical sections seem a bit more brisk, but let's face it most if not all that can be said about Club Sites has been said on a regular basis.
It serves a narrow clientele this forum, as contrasted by other forums which perhaps have a wider base of experiences, people touring in different ways, plus other forums have some very active sub sections away from the touring remit. But folks obviously still enjoy posting, and it is still a great source of information.

You are correct, Rocky, that there is no compulsion on volunteers to do anything. This is the great difficulty of an organisation that relies on volunteers.
Most volunteer organisations ask for a level of commiment. Of course, this isn't enforcable, it's just a way of trying to make sense of the organisation and how it's run.
The problem comes when the volunteers don't stick to their commitment.
In the case of mods, I guess a lack of commitment just means that the other mods have to take up the slack. The CAMC doesn't have to find a replacement, as the job gets done. But is this fair?
I guess what I'm saying is - if you don't want the role anymore, be realistic and 'resign' so that the organisation (in this case the CAMC) can do something about finding replacements, to reduce the load on the remaining, active mods.

Ian, I think you might be being a tad unfair. Mods are human beings, they have other commitments, fall ill, take holidays of their own etc....
Being blunt, one or two of the characters who required careful watching seem no longer to post as well, so what used to be an everyday task keeping an eye on certain individuals, has now ceased. None of us know what happens behind the scenes, and it isn't helpful suggesting people who have been willing to help out resign. They have a role to play, and do it quietly from the background, popping up when required.

The forum has become so quiet that it would be nice (and convenient) to read ALL NEW posts in linear format .... except that the only way to do this is via 'LATEST POSTS' ..... and this is constantly clogged up with (pointless?) 'likes' and 'what are you doing today' posts.

I disagree.
I do work for a small local charity and it is so frustrating when people say they will do something, and then don't.
Managing volunteers must be extremely difficult and sometimes management need to face reality and do what, to some, seems ruthless.......for the good of the other volunteers and the organisation as a whole.

Ian, how do you know that those mods that you don't see are needed to intervene. There are so many less posts being moderated, or needing moderation, these days that those that you do notice need not necessarily be "taking up the slack" as there's no slack to take up. Have you seen any mention of being over worked by the those mods that you've seen moderating?

You mean like me then Ian? Had to take on caring for two seriously ill elderly people, then finding out OH is seriously ill and in need of constant care? Whoops, awfully sorry but I just can't be around as much as I would love to be, giving up something I have loved for past twelve years!
No, they haven't got rid of me, they have told me to take all the time I need, come back and do what I can, when I can. Past commitment rewarded, empathy shown. Much as I did when I managed volunteers as well as staff. A well managed environment values its volunteers, and doesn't forget what they have done in the past.

I am still here mostly try to help with questions etc in the European Section but now on an 8 week holiday in Germany and Austria.
On the other hand the Forum has quietend down a lot and not so much to do. I am on the Forum 2/3 times a day but do not post every time only when I see something I can help with.
