Dometic fridge

Hi I have a 3way dometic fridge (RM7270) in my motorhome the problem is that it has stopped working on the 240v supply there is power going to it thro the same circuit breaker as the hot water and heating which works fine, now I have been told that by leaving it on for long periods of time on the 240v it does not do it any good is this true or just a myth as surly a static caravan would have a similar type of fridge and could end up with the same problem, any thoughts on this please, cheers, Peter.

    No idea but would be interested in the answers, we've had ours on EHU for up to 10 weeks, only off when we move sites every week or so.

    Snap.

    Ive not heard these stories before, if on site with ehu then we will use it for the fridge...

    however, if the site voltage drops below a certain level, some fridges are sensitive to this and they just stop, sometimes ypu get an error code, depending on model.

    does the fridge work on gas and on 12v when driving?

    Not heard anything like that. We use ehu if we have it on site. We don't store at home so it's never on ehu all the time. Is that what this refers too? Not sure why it would.

    Same with us TG with similar length of trips. Not had any problems with it not working on 240v but it does ice up very quicky, and needs de-icing every 3 weeks or so.

    It may be the element - which can be a problem on Dometic fridge/freezers.

    On mains power, the easiest way of testing the element is to remove the lower vent cover and feel the element as it enters the burner tube area, if its hot, its working, after having power to it for about 10 minutes.

    You should be able to detect 'warmth' coming from the upper vent without removing the cover.

    We thought ours had packed up when our on-site neighbour, at Navajas in Spain, turned on his caravan heating full blast which dragged down the mains voltage!

    Couldn't happen in UK , I don't think.

    Update on my original post I have now had a new element fitted and now works perfectly but was still told not to leave it on the 240v for long periods, have sent an email to Dometic but not reply after two weeks so as in my first post can you leave it on 240v for long periods or not, I am none the wiser, cheers.     I've never heard that before. Our fridges have been left working on 240v for days and days on end in caravans. Not so much with the MH though as it's frequently swapped to 12v.

    Static caravans usually have ordinary domestic fridges, PB, as they have no need for the 3 way system.
