My 'van's insurance needs to be renewed in three weeks time.  I would like to insure with the club, but there are other caravan insurance  providers out there who offer the same cover for up to £120.00 cheaper than the club quote.  I know 'you gets what you pays for' but is the higher premium really justified?

what a question! Only you can decide what is a good price or not based on a number of things. First thing to look at is the level of cover actually the same? Things like new for old or the amounts insured, and what extra equipment that you keep in the caravan is covered (aquaroll, pots and pans, bedding) is there some sort of legal protection. Do you have to have certain security equipment like hitch locks, wheel clamps, tracker? Is the other insurance company well known? Are there are any reviews? Is it a large organisation like the club is?

What what I recall from posts on here the club seems to handle any claims well, which is the real test, which unfortunately you only find out when you need to. Lets hope none of us ever have to find that out.

Unfortunately I have had to claim twice on the Club caravan insurance.  My experience is such that I will never have caravan insurance from any other provider than the Club.  Excellent service, second to none.

We have cc insurance and the service excellent,we had an awning damaged in a storm while on holiday in Kent,,there was no quibble and a new awning arrived the following day by courier, also when a rear panel was damaged including all the lights (numpty ran into back of us)while on tour in the lakes,  the c/van was taken to our local dealer after our stay at the site after being looked at by insurance ascesor (on site) by low loader, and we had it back in less than a month

Never had club insurance but when I renewed in Febuary there was a very positive response when I told prospective insurers what I had already been quoted and some considerable reductions for what, so far as I could see, was the same cover.

What I cannot know, and hope to never know, is how things will go if I do have to make a claim.

I have been a club member for 41 years and take out my van insurance with them every year. As you say, you get,s what you pay. I had reason too claim for a total write off, due to a fire in the van, May 2016. From the moment that I contacted the Main Office, it was dealt with in a very good manner. From putting the claim forms in, too arriving at the settlement figure, it took 3 months. We were covered by the Super 5 c,s policy, where I have new for old. New van purchased Early September 2016. Certainly would not go any where else.

We had a van stolen back in 2011.The van was only 18 months old and although it took around six weeks we were paid out.The delay was due to the van in question going out of production so they did,nt know what to pay out for a replacement. In the end they paid me out on a higher speck van than the one stolen which was great. The only frustrating thing i found was that i had to deal with three different offices over the claim. You have the CC,the loss adjusters and also the company that actually pays you out. With my claim i had to go to the CC to tell the other two too get their act together which they did.I,ve just renewed my van insurance with the CC and when i rang up they said that i was over insured on the van and contents so i lowered the insurance and got a cheaper premium. Not many insurance companies would do that.

we have just renewed our caravan insurance but not with the caravan club which I have used for some years, we now have a new for old policy with an  excess of £150 which works out a £100 cheaper than the caravan club which has an  excess of £500.

We were more than happy with CC insurance but last year didn't want to pay a large premium for Red Pennant, which covers a gap in CC caravan insurance relating to repatriation of van to UK. Previous years the premium for RP was reasonable enough but we found other source for foreign cover, saving over £300 and plugging gap, so moved caravan insurance.

If you are not travelling abroad for long period, or don't mind paying for RP (again excellent cover), then insure with club. Whatever you do study the policy details as they relate to your own circumstances before insuring. You can usually download policies as pdfs.
