Esterel Camping/L'Hippocamp
hello, hoping for some feedback if anyone has stayed at Esterel Camping Agay recently. We could only find two reviews which are several years old. We have two dogs and would be looking to be there in May 2017. Also L'Hippocamp at Volonne. Would appreciate any info.

I am sorry I can't help you directly, but I'm surprised you say you can only find two old reviews. There are three 2016 reviews here on the Club website, and several hundred reviews on Trip Advisor - over 200 of them in English.

Yes, there are three reviews on the club site, ours being one of those. Having re-read it almost a year on I would stand by it wholeheartedly, would we return on our own? Probably not. But there were couples there who had been going for years. It's all singing and dancing but could be so much better.

+1 .............I actually made arrangements to go into work late on booking open day (a long time ago) in order to get onto this site in August - mad or what! (long story). We went to Esterel, again many years ago, in June half term, it was quiet and pleasant and we had a pitch with its own bathroom. We also won a jive competition. Sorry a bit off thread.

Another thought! If you are looking for reports, it might be a good idea to check ukcampsite.co.uk. They have an 'other countries' section. I haven't checked the 2 sites you mention, but try and find them in the correct region HERE.
Hope this helps.

Millielou, It all depends what you are looking for - an activity packed family holiday in high summer, or something more low key in spring. There are sites of all shapes, sizes and styles in mainland Europe - but sadly this Club's booking and reservation list doesn't give a very wide choice, but just pushes the big, elaborate, and highly commercial ones.

I posted this, this morning, early, and obviously wasn't quite awake and so it ended up in the wrong thread. However, it makes the same points as Eurotraveller's post above.
We have been to both, but so long ago that my reviews would hardly be valid. I do remember Esterel being somewhat crowded in, on terraces, and at Hippocampe we loved our large pitch, which had cherry trees (ready for picking) on top of the lovely old stone terracing. But the 'facilities' were somewhat tired and the pool not as good as it looked in the brochure. I'm sure this will have been improved by now.
Check out the website Zoover, which is a Dutch campsite review website - there are lots of reviews of Esterel and Hippocampe in English.
I notice that these are both listed by the Caravan Club in their overseas sites section. But I would add that unless you really want a large site, in my opinion there are a lot nicer sites to be found in Provence, outside of the few offered by the Caravan Club and perhaps those who have visited some recently may be able to offer recommendations.
We liked Le Vaudois at Roquebrune sur Argens, which is a smaller site, and very good value at just 13 euros per night including hook-up (using an ACSI Card - link here). There are lots of other sites, both in the ACSI Scheme and outside it.
