Cadiz
We are in Spain at the moment, at El Rocio. Thinking of moving down towards Cadiz and have seen that there is a ferry from El Puerto de Santa Maria to Cadiz. Does anyone know whether you can take dogs on the ferry. We have 2 small terriers.

No....I'm afraid not. We tried last year and were refused. It's not too far to drive (don't know if you have car/van or MH). We parked opposite the cruise ship terminal near to the independence statue - 5euros parking all day. For future reference - we haven't found anywhere in Spain where you can take a dog onto public transport...would be pleased to know if you know differently. ps we're currently at La Manga and buses here don't allow dogs. Happy travels!!

We have stayed in El Puerto for several years and have always understood that dogs were not allowed on the ferry. However, this year we saw two separate occasions when a small dog was carried in a proper pet-carrier. I don't know if they just didn't mention it when buying their ticket and the ferry staff didn't bother but you could contact the local tourist office or even email via the 'Bahia de Cádiz Catamaran' website to ask. The website has an English version and may have the answer.
incidentally, if the weather is bad the service goes by bus (same price) and you'd have to check whether they allow dogs!

TG, also on our list and just had a look on Street View to check for bike lanes on the two crossings...
looks like the sputhern crossing has a 'no pedestrians' sign which might also mean bikes, but the newer crossing to the north, looks more promising but the pictures are unclear due to the bridge still being under construction when the pictures were taken.
i would think access by bike would have been catered for in the newer route, but you never know.
as suggested, the bus might do....

Thanks for the replies. We did email the company to ask, but didn't expect a reply. But they did reply saying you can take a dog up to 10kg but it must be in a secure cage of up to a max dimensions. So we will be driving in, possibly tomorrow. We are currently on Playa les Dunas and being battered by 50mph winds! Doubt whether the ferry is running at the moment as it is so rough!

Spain is not very dog friendly l'm afraid. They are not allowed on any public transport, buses or trains unless in a proper enclosd dog carrier.
strangely we have found taxi drivers quite amenable to transporting dogs!
