Hi,

My wife and I are planning a four to six week trip over the water next year.

We are planning to stay in

  • Northern France or Belgium.
  • Paris.
  • Marseille
  • The Black Forest
  • Switzerland.
  • Northern Germany

We have only been using a caravan for just over a year and do not know where to find information on reputable sites, could someone point us in the right direction.

I do not have any issues driving on the continent as I am a coach driver and have driven there many times.

Regards

Steve and Teresa

I suggest you buy copies of the Club site guides - Touring France and Touring Europe . You can get those now for the general information they contain, and then early in 2018 a copy of the ACSI Camping Card guide if you are looking for out of season discounts.

Or if you want to see earlier what ACSI offer this is the web site

    https://www.campingcard.co.uk/

    I also use

    http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/

which gives reviews of sites abroad as well as in this country.

Have a great trip whatever or wherever you decide to go.  Just be aware a lot of European sites close early October thru to April the following year.  Also you might need to check the requirement for winter tyres at your chosen destinations.

We are returning home after visiting the German Baltic coast, fantastic but windylaughing

Over a 4 to 6 week period that seems a very ambitious trip? Personally I would try and narrow it down a bit. All the places you mention are well worth while but in that time frame it seems a lot? If you took the South of France out of the equation it would be more than possible. Over the past 10 years since we retired we have regularly done 6/8 week trips in Europe but we have tended to have an area in mind. You are welcome to have a look at my Blogs here which might help.

I agree with DavidKlyne.  It seems a touch adventurous for 4-6 weeks - especially if it is your first time.  If you want to take a look at my two stories of our last 2 visits across it may give you one or two ideas and also of possible sites.  I'll have to look up the links and postc them later, so please check back.

Last year we did the Mosel in Germany (stayin at Camping Burgen, between Koblenz and Cochem) then we moved to the Black Forest (Camping Belchenblick).  After staying for a few days at Macon (the Municipal site) we made our way to N.Provence (Camping Bregoux at Aubignsn) then Frejus on the coast (L'Etoile D'Argens).  From there we went to Italy and staye at Montecatini Terme  (Camping Belsito) before making our way to the outskirts of Switzerland  (we actually stayed in France, just outside Geneva (Camping La Columbiere at Neydens).  We headed back to Calais after a short stay at the old municipal site at Chalons-en-Champagne.  That lot took us between 6-7 weeks.

     Hi,

Would agree with above comments, an ambitious road trip in 4- 6 weeks which would miss an awful lot out.

Switzerland is very very much on our list but we would want to perhaps look at staying at least 2 or 3 weeks there which would also mitigate the costly annual charge for the vignette licence - was about e80 one off cost for an outfit last time I looked.

We usually look to do say 2 days travel (about say 600 miles) and then look to settle for a few days in true caravaning style (subtle dig) using the tow car to sight see around.

Bit of a re-think maybe but that's the pleasure of trip planning.

We found the ACSI guide & website great for sites. Lots of the C&MC sites are from that guide. Its normal not to book unless in peak or at very commercial type themepark carasites. If you like it stay longer if not move on.

Another guide to have a read of is the Joys of Caravanning website - a great source of info from a well travelled forum member.

    Enjoy.

    Hi

Thank you for the advice, we decided to do just Switzerland next June for a month.

We have already planned to stay just outside Barcelona for a month in April or May
