Farm Shops
Any recommendations in parts of the country some of us might be visiting? I can recommend two in Somerset, just off the A3303 near the South Petherton roundabout. The Trading Post and Bower Hinton Farm Shop. Both have coffee shops (one in an old railway carriage) So also quite useful if you've got a motorhome and want a break, parking a bit tricky with a caravan. But if you're staying in the area a good alternative to supermarkets.

Butts Farm a few miles from Cirencester Park CAMC site. It is attached to the rare breeds farm, that can also be visited.

I do remember Farm Shops from when they actually sold produce actually produced on the farm, and often at an attractive price.
Certainly in my area, these days they are little more than upmarket retail outlets. Yes, the fresh produce is often local, and usually of high quality ..... but the price reflects this .... with an added margin for the fact that it calls itself a 'farm shop'.

We tend to buy most of meat purchases from Hawarden Food Shop. Their beef is their own from the estate and the Pheasants, Partridge and Rabbits are either shot on the estate or from the locality.
They also have a very good selection of cheeses and their deli counter isn't too bad. They have a PYO in season and sell the fruit in the shop as well as their own veg.
We don't use the cafe but it can get quite busy.
The farm shop is situated on the B5125 on the way out of Hawarden towards Broughton Aerospace.

the cafe / restaurant is rubbish
The one and only thing we've ever eaten there was their custard tart, quite a few years ago and I have to say that it was the best I've ever tasted and at the time I was an expert on them.
However, I've not been that way for 6/7 years and eating establishments change as chefs/cooks come and go so any recommendation for eating is only as good as the last review and some times not even then.

Another good farm shop just off the A303 (London to the South West) is the one at NT Stourhead, run independently they have a good range of products and also separate parking from the NT area but all via the same entrance.

Heaven Farm in the heart of Sussex Weald is lovely. It has an organic farm shop and tearooms plus it's a CL Site too! The bluebells are beautiful at this time of year.

Butts sells a range. Some from the farm such as the Gloucester Old Spot Pork and bacon, some from other producers in the area. Certainly the Old is very good value. Although would appear expensive in relation to commercially reared supermarket pork.

If in the Suffolk area I can recommend the farm shop at Fiday Street, on the road to Snape from the A12. It sells quite a bit of its own fruit and veg, has a butchers, a PYO, good choice of packed food such as bacon, cheese, pre-prepared meals, etc. There's also a cafe and an Independent excellent Fishmonger on site.
We always spend some time here when in the area.

Another excellent farm shop can be found at Sizergh Farm near the club site at Kendall. Everything you want plus watch the cows being milked whilst you sit in the cafe overlooking the milking parlour (lovely phrase that).

Sorry to everyone else for going off topic but Goldie might be interested to note that the Cholomendly Arms, near the entrance to the castle, on the A49 in Cheshire, sells over 200 different GINS. Might be a good place to arrange your next get together with the old school brigade here eh?

We went to the Wheatsheaf at Brigsteer last night.
A wonderful meal, enjoyed by the six of us celebrating making it through Countryfile filming. They had at least ten Gins and English Wine, so I was well pleased.
Its a small pub and restaurant but well worth seeking out if you're in the Kendal area

Two more farm shops to consider near CC sites are;
1. Church Farm, surprisingly found next to the church in Thurstaston. This is very close to Wirral CP CC site. It's a CS as well, or at least was last time I looked. They tend to sell their own Organic fare and there is a cafe, handy for those who walk out of the CC site onto the Wirral Way, head south until the sign for the Dungeon is seen, take this path until you get to a T junction of paths and turn left for a few hundred yards to Church Farm. Not that far of a walk
2. Chatsworth has its own farm shop, not quite adjacent to the house but a close drive away. Not been for a few years but used to be a good variety of products, a lot of it from the estate itself.

There's a small farm shop at Beningbrough NT, near York. You don't need to be a member to accss it. A cafe is attached. The farm shop sells fruit and veg from the estate plus local fare such as cheese (we tried 4 samples from a producer at Thirsk, Mrs.Bell and bought a few). Also bought some venison pate, tomatoes, local bacon and a GF loaf. The farm shop is well sign posted.
The cafe was doing a roaring trade, a lot of it from cyclists who seem to us it as a pit stop.

People coming to Cornwall often ask for convenient stops. Lifton Farm Shop is just off the A30 and has a car park big enough to take caravans. Yes truly. Leave the A30 at the Lifton junction, 2 miles east of Launceston, and at the end of the slip road turn towards Lifton village. The farm shop and restaurant are on the left and open every day from 8 am. although not late into the evening. Recommended.

I'd like to recommend Lacey's Farm Shop in Buckinghamshire. If you are a fan of top-quality cream and milk, there's none better than from their award-winning Guernsey cows.
CL's nearby include: Cholsey Grange & Red Barn Farm. Club sites nearby include Henley Four Oaks.

Called in at Daylesford Organic farm shop today (not far from Stow). Quality is high and so are the prices! We bought a Bledington blue cheese to try. Appropriate as we are staying in Bledington for this week. If it's good then I'll post in Cheese thread.

Stopped off at Doves Orchards farm shop, between Holme and Thornham on the North Norfolk coast. Plenty of apple varieties at this time of year with other seasonal fruit and food. There is also a stall run by Gurneys fishmongers, whose shop is found in Burnham Market.

Just off the A350 just outside of Chippenham there is Allington Farm. No good if stopping en route with caravan, but if in the area or travelling back past solo, well worth the trip.

If you're in West Yorkshire, or the lower parts of North Yorkshire have a look in at
1. The Local Pantry on the Harrogate road out of Otley. Nice restaurant, local produce and good quality.
2. Caring for Life, on the Otley Old Road, Leeds 16 - a social enterprise which houses vulnerable people, and provides employment too. Good organic shop, and a nice restaurant.
3. Fewston Farm Shop. Upper Cobby Syke Farm, HG3 1SR
4. Keelham Farm Shop, Broughton Road, Skipton, BD23 1UD - good prices too.
All highly recommended.

Peach Croft Farm in Abingdon is a Caravan Club CL with a great farm shop and cafe, lovely people and well worth a visit, easy to get to whatever size your unit, we often use it when travelling north/south, great value for money, great for visiting Oxford, Blenheim Palace. One of our favourite stopovers

Called in at Fodders Farm Shop just by the Great Yorkshire Showground on the outskirts of Harrogate. A lot of local produce. Nice cafe as well.
Take the turn at the lights as if going to Sainsburys and continue for about 600 yards past supermarket.
