Site near (ish) to Le Mans
Hi we will be passing by Le Mans in France on our way south and want a site just for one night in July. Today we rang the Club to book Le Château de Chanteloup which is just outside Le Mans but on the dates we go there is a classic car show and the price just for the night has shot up to £35.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a one night stay in this area? We are travelling from Calais to Brossac so the site doesn't have to be at Le Mans its just that LM is the half way point. We are open to both club and non club sites.
Thanks

There's the municipal site at Beaumont sur Sarthe, about 15 miles north of Le Mans, the municipal site at Eccommoy, about 15 miles south, and Camping Le Pont Romain, close to Le Mans itself. All are listed with contact details and comments in the Club's Touring France site guide.

as you have a MH, surely the aire at Chateaudun must be worth a look. our pals used it on the 'long route south' from Calais to the Costa Brava.....and on the way back.
we would have too, but our starting point was further west, Cherbourg, so nor really on our route.
this os one of the great advantages ypu have with your MH, especially in a place like France, you can choose which town you wish to stop in and there will always be somewhere....
good luck.

this one is free, as are thousands more just like it....

No reply because there's probably no one there. The site re opens on 1st May, but an e mail to the mayor's office at the town hall might get you an earlier answer.

As ET says site won't be open just now.
I have stayed there three times and never booked ahead once. Two stays in June and once in September. It might be different in July but like most municipal sites get there before 4pm and you should be ok.

This site, Camping Municipal de la Route d'Or, is not too far from Le Mans.

Just in case anyone does use Chateau Chanteloup, OH and pals used it a few years back for the Classic Le Mans and had a great time. Lots of classic cars on site with food and music laid on too. Here's a pic of the "boys" enjoying their trip, OH drove our previous van over to France specially for the occasion.
Hope the OP finds an alternative for the one night stop.

do you really need a 'proper' campsite for a one nighter?
i can understand you might be a bit apprehensive if you've never stopped on an aire before, but the one i linked to at Chateaudun is fairly typical, right in the town next to the cathedral and you will almost certainly have the reassurance of other 'guests'.
if you do try and you like it, it will open up the way you travel around france and elsewhere in europe. you have a mighty advantage being in a MH and visiting the most MH friendly country in Europe.
no ringing ahead, no booking, very often no fees and thousands to choose from, located in most towns and villages so great for access 'a pied'
good luck with your trip.
