Stuck near Lorient any ideas
i am a bit stuck near Lorient France with brother in hospital. Any ideas - I haven't got to the centre ville yet but had a pleasant day out at Pont Aven with sister and niece yesterday. I may return home next week as planned and get on with planned Scottish break or take some time away here and explore not too far away. My son's words of wisdom "why go home when you will have to go back for the funeral". Always direct that one! My daughter pointed out the same situation arose last year and my brother is still here but clearly doesn't want to be now. A crystal ball would be good. Shame he doesn't live in Belgium he would have the choice there. Thanks for any suggestions - I have two dogs with me and enjoy seaside/countryside and old stuff I have done Carnac.

Quiberon is a lovely area - just down the road. There are about 4 ACSI sites on the peninsula. As you drive along it you see both coastlines and some really nice scenery.
Also I believe Carnac is nice, although not been there. Some standing stones as I recall.
Concarneau also worth a visit - not too far up the road.

Sorry to hear of the reason for your being near Lorent, but making the best of your situation you have lots of great places to visit nearby.
Moelan sur Mer and Riec sur Belon are excellent for coastal walks and seafood. Quimperle is a lovely market town. Etel is a nice seaside town and has a good cliff top caravan site. A day trip on the ferry over to Isle de Groix from Lorient is a joy. Dont miss Pont Aven and inland walks in the woods, and whilst over there do a drive around the little villages and coastal sites to the west of the town.
I hope thats enough to get you going. The local Office de Tourism will also help.

Thanks very much most helpful. I must look in reception here again but didn't see any tourist info yesterday. There will be a proper office de Tourisme somewhere no doubt. Concarneau is lovely and one of my brother's favourite places have been there often with them. I feel heading south would take me to new pastures and avoid memories of happier times. I have enjoyed buying salt on the roadside in the Guerande area!

Hi Pippah, so sorry to hear you are reliving last years problems and hope all turns out OK.
There is an ACSI site near Trinite sur Mer with footpath access to the Carnac stones. There are loads of them in a huge field with others nearby. Also walkable into Trinite with a large leisure port. We [Carolyn, Martin, Clive, Phil and I] stayed there last September.
