Just had my pre-holiday haircut, so have gone from "dulux dog" to "shorn sheep", just as well the weather is getting warmer!  OAP rate is £3.50 Monday to Thursday before 2.30pm, so good value.

We also went to the bank, picked up prescriptions, and shopped in Waitrose using our "pick your own offers" list, and finished off with a cappucino each.

OH also bought 4 Aquilegias, they were 2 for £6 and really sturdy looking plants, so 2 for me to plant tomorrow, and 2 for our daughter's little garden,  which needs new colour now the bulbs are almost finished blooming.

Before we went out I did a repair job on the caravan clock, and defluffed the air con, OH will deal with the carpets tomorrow.  And, according to OH, tomorrow the packing starts in earnest, so another busy day ahead.

ET, must admit I do feel my age more these days than 10 years back when I was still working, but since my bypass I feel better than 2-3 years back.  My younger sister had a hip replacement 3 years back, and recently I have felt a few twinges in one hip and one hand, so could  well be heading down that path too.

Trying to keep both body and mind active, memory sometimes fails me on names and faces, OH bought me a "brain training" book with crosswords, sudoku and various other puzzles,  I do a few every evening, helps stop me falling asleep in my chair!

Malcolm, there are plenty of people working well into there 80's now a days. Age discrimination is not allowed, since April 2011 the right to work until you decide to stop has been allowed.

Age is but a number, you are as capable as the next person, be more positive as Kj says you will have lots more to offer than just being a delivery driver. However if that is what you like to do then please please learn from your previous experience and work for a reliable company like one of the major supermarkets, they will I'm sure have flexible hours, holiday pay, sick pay etc and you will not have to insure your own vehicle for business use which should save you a lot of money. The big companies even have women working as drivers winklaughing

£3 is exceptionally cheap, almost worth travelling to Scotland to get a haircut!!! My pensioner rate is £9 with a tip.

We had our first coffee in Waitrose today since the changes came into force. This is in the sit down cafe which seemed much quieter than usual. In the past we have had a free coffee each and usually a cake to share. However today we were told that a purchase was required with each card (coffee). They suggested paying 30p extra for a large coffee which would be the purchase, seemed fair enough!

Aquilegias are lovely flowers but they do self seed so next year you could have a lot more for your money!!!

We're at Membury Services on the M4 having stayed overnight. Huge inflation in the overnight parking charge. Last time we stayed here they charged us £12. This time it was £24 with a £10 food voucher included  Kingto spend in one of the restauarants. There's a choice of Costa or Burger King but from the menu it looks like we can get two £4.99 breakfasts from Burger King a it seems to be a lot lower cost than Costa!

Charge was £8 for a 'restyle'. smile

Gave the chap £5 tip. He said 'are you sure?', 'its a lot'.

I said 'that's fine, I probably won't see you before October and I want you to stay in business'.

Like you David, we usually go in the cafe. However, occasionally we have a take away after shopping. I must remember to ask them if you can get two cups on the one card, with £80 or so of shopping. Otherwise we would have to hold one item back and also use OH's card, which would seem a bit pointless.

Another glorious spring morning and if the forecast is correct a weekend like it too 😆. We've certainly had a beautiful spring this year flowers and trees are vibrant.

Couple of days off from working at mums. Spoilt for choice regarding what to do - a real laidback chilling day with the sun chairs, finish off tidying the shed shelves, cleaning and sorting our cycles or a walk into town to show what hubby the beautiful parks and roundabouts (yes worth it as a destination in itself but I did forget the one thing I went into town for yesterday 😯 even forgot to put it on my list 😲). I expect it will be a combination of all of the above.

Malcolm I hate to ask why a night in the service station? If it was your night away from seasonal pitch there must be something better and cheaper - you certainly have a VERY understanding wife 😮. Only in a direct dire dire emergency would that be contemplated in our world

Yeah, he's way out man cool

What a waste of resources Malcolm, there has to be much better overnights than an expensive carpark, especially as you are now out of work.

A lot cheaper than the £40 my eldest son pays in London, although he goes to a proper Turkish barber.

Pensioner mens haircuts here seem to be £5. Still wildly cheaper than a ladies 😮. I have to say that £3 on the face of it may end up being less than the minimum wage on an hourly basis 😉 especially if the starting point is a long as some of you chaps are suggesting 😂😂

Probably not but think of what you can buy in the shops or at the farm gate for a minimum of £10. Breakfast and possibly someway to lunch. All fresh and eaten in comfort ☺

    Steve

It would be interesting to know how that works. I think the background is that they want to stop people walking in off the street for a free coffee. If you appear at the check out or service desk with a trolley load of shopping it would be a bit churlish to insist that you have two separate transactions and hardly in the interests of Waitrose themselves? The difference with the cafe is that the spend has got to be in the cafe rather than the shop in order to get the free coffee.

Congratulations Brue. I thought you said you weren't picking much - are those all yours? They're very pretty.

How lucky are you to get another dental appointment the same day?
