Exterior T/V point not working
Hi All,
Last week we were away in our new MH in a poor T/V reception area. The site had T/V points on the pitch bollards for you to run a coax to your van. We did this and with the aid of an adaptor plugged the coax into our exterior Sat T/V point. But we got no reception!!! When we run the coax direct to our T/V through a window it was perfect so it wasn't a fault on the bollard.
Can anyone suggest what could be the problem? I rang our dealer who said it could be that a "splitter" needs fitting, but wasn't sure.

Hi did u change over the feed inside the motor home from your roof aerial to the outside aerial point. where the aerial from the roof comes into the motor home there will be a box that u switch on and it has usually 3different coax leads one for roof aerial one for radio and one for the outside tv point u have to unscrew one and screw the other one in its place hope this helps

On my MH I don't have to swap any leads around. The co-ax from the bollard is connected to the exterior satellite connector via a co-ax to F connector adapter. Inside the MH the tv station comprises 2 points, one co-ax and one F connector. The co-ax lead from the tv is plugged into the F connector via another adapter. I switch on the amp in the wardrobe and jobs a good un.

Same as PG. The roof aerial goes through the amp and outputs at the co-ax sockets. The external sat socket is just a cable connection to the internal F-type sockets. I have an F-type to co-ax adapter in the F socket so I can plug the TV aerial lead into it when using a bollard hook-up.

I got fed up with ours not working properly, so unscrewed the connection on the inside of the van and a connected an independent length of cable, which comes from under the bed directly into the TV. The roof satellite dome or status roof aerial is routed through the wall sockets, depending what connections I make to the signal amplifier or satellite control box.

We have two internal aerial sockets.
One connects to the external socket, to which can be connected either a satellite diish or similar or a co-axial cable to a signal booster bollard.
The other connects to the roof aeriel.
We have to plug the TV aerial cable into the correct socket.

Hi
one trick I use but not sure why it works is to plug extension lead in direct from Ballard to ariel point on back of tv.
tune tv in as normal, when tuned in and working unplug from back of tv the extension lead and plug into auxiliary point in cupboard outside then plug short lead in caravan to tv.
works every time.
hope that's clear

Full agreement, JVB !! At home I take the lead from the aerial direct into the TV which works exceedingly well, so why would I do anything different in my van ?? If the Club provides a TV point on a bollard it will be just the same as the output from an aerial surely ??

Hi All,
It looks like Chrissy was right. I took the MH back to the dealer today and they said I needed to disconnect the coax and plug in the cable marked sat into that inlet.
The white cable on the far right from the roof top aerial and feeds both TV's. So to use the external sat TV socket I have to feed the coax into that and then go into the Van and unplug the white cable and the black cable next to it that is currently feeding into the "radio' into "ant in". I cant check that this is the case until we're on a site with a coax hook up on the bollard. But when we took the MH back to the storage site there was a Caravan engineer on site and I asked him, I didn't tell him what the dealer had said but he came up with the exact same remedy that the dealer did.
Truly thanks to all for your replies

To be fair Easy T your solution is fine by me. But Mrs FB does like her telly in the evening. We've just started touring this year so only had the darker and cold evenings but we've both said when the better weather and lighter evenings come around we'll be sat outside more and using the telly less.
