Tut tut !! What's the problem with wild daffodils
glancing through mail online this morning , seems a local police women had go at 2 small children and there dad for he was allowing them to pick 10 daffodils, for there mum and grandmother while out walking for Mother's Day , the picture shows what looks like hundreds of daffs ,
instead of sternly blasting them and frightening the two little girls, surely she could have called dad aside explaining why they were doing wrong,

We have daffodils in large groups in the grassed areas in our road, and today when walking home from town at "schools out" time, two parents were on their "phones" as their children walked into the middle of one large patch and started pulling the blooms off, when i shouted at them the "mothers" just called the "brats" and then went back to their phones,so a "quiet word" these days?

Strange how we all have different views on something , yes the daffs on grass verges all around the country look beautiful Yes ! Vandalism of any property anywhere is appalling, but two under 7 yr olds with there dad in a respectable village,
To me I personably believe she should have handled the situation a lot better , if she was looking to have her name in print she got it. If she was looking for another stripe I hope she doesn't ,
Police have had a lot of stick lately , stopping children aged 3 on three wheeler cycles on pavements and actually giving the parents an official warning and now this it's no wonder ! Surely there's enough real criminals they could spend there time dealing with ....or would that be to hard and risky

I think that situation could have been handled better. Sadly jobsworth.
JVB66 you were lucky not to have got a mouthful from the mothers. Sad reflection of society today. Used to be said it takes a village to raise a child, your example gives credence to that in the second instance but in the first alienates folks against the police.
Funny old world 😉. Respect springs to mind.

Since daffodils are in such abundance this year, perhaps the best solution would have been to explain to the child that they could only CAREFULLY pick 3 or 4 stems, and then explain how to look after them when they got home. Just possible they would become future gardeners.

We have lots of Daffodil's along side our roads, huge swathes of them, often seen dogs running through flattening them, while owners walk along on their phones or just not taking any notice, should the police have a word with them? kids have picked flowers for as long as i can remember, if they are picked properly and only a few at a time I have no problem with that, its the little bu@@ers that run through them pulling the heads of that riles me.

When I was young (some time ago) we would sit for ages in the park or country field making daisy chains was this illegal ? and yes we used to pick the Bluebells to don't think they were protected then but even so the parky as we called him never stopped us , wild Roese was another favourite for making or should I say trying to make our own purfume and as for police !! they were busy with real criminals

Personally I think the police were completely right to take the action they did. On the news I watched it said 27 flowers had been picked. It also shows the dad up as a bit of skinflint, after all you can buy a bunch of daffs for £1. He is also giving no moral lead to his children so its wrong on all sorts of levels. Another issue is that kids tend to pull flowers out of the ground which will likely destroy the bulb for future years. I don't think you can compare with daisies as they are a weed and will be mown back at least every month during the summer. In Milton Keynes we have had some lovely displays of spring bulbs along our grid roads. I am sure some are picked but in the main they are respected by the people that live here.
