The World of Sport has gone mad

Over the past few weeks we've had a rugby international decided 20 minutes into overtime thanks to interventions from an off pitch official, a woman golfer losing a tournament she was winning by a mile thanks to the intervention of a TV viewer and now a Premier League manager hauled over the coals because of a light hearted aside at the end of an interview which noone took offence to at the time. I'm sure others will be able to come up with similar examples.

Are we in danger of ruining sports as a spectacle by taking things too seriously? Seems to me the sports world has taken leave of its senses!

Quite  agree  M,  I  heard  the  comment  to  the  reporter  about  her  being  a  little  naughty,  and  getting  a  slap  if  she  did  it  again  and  he  was  laughing,  she  was  laughing,  others  there  were  laughing  and  if  I may  say  so,  I  was  laughing  as  well    !  Bare  facts  made  it  sound  appalling,  but  put  into  context  it  was  a  light  hearted  aside  that  all  seemed  to  enjoy.

As  for  the  golfing  incident  quite  a  few  people  have  passed  comments  on  this.  Perhaps  a  "Time  Limit"  of  Two  holes  or  similar  would  avoid  the  distress  caused  to  somebody  for  a  slight  slip  which  as you  say  cost  her  a  title  &  Heavens  Knows  how  much  cash  and  damaged  her  reputation  as  well ( It  will  be  on  the  record  now  &  forever )

Similarly  in  soccer  we  hear,  ad  nauseum,  ex-players  turned  commentators/sumarisers  saying  things  like  " He's  taken  one  for  the  team",  as  if  deliberately  cheating  is  something  to  be  proud  of.

Sport,  Pah,  it's  not  like  it  was  in  MY  day yell !!

    Totally agree with you Moulesy

The intervention of technology has indeed encroached, imho, far too much into sport and some referees are relying on it to make decisions, rather than doing what they're paid for.

If you look at the Wales game, the referee should've penalised Wales' pack after the second infringement and awarded a penalty try. Unfortunately the ref had never played in the scrum himself, so didnt understand what the 'clever pack' were up to.

The golf decision was a joke and although technically within the rules, a 'trial by home tv' should never have been allowed. A total nonsense.

I wonder how the referee, Jorge Larrionda, now feels after watching Frank Lampards disallowed goal in 2010. Perhaps we should now demand a re-match?

As for Moyles. Have you noticed who it is kicking up a stink? Two women. I'm not sexist, but if you want to play with the boys and be in a mans' world, sometimes you're going to hear throw away comments which you might not like....it's called Banter. Even the reporter was smiling and accepted his apology. Thank God he never mentioned he was just going to get his nails manicured!
