Booking a pitch

Booking individual pitches will educe occupancy slightly and we have enough problems getting on pitches as it is. Basically it will mean odd nights on individual pitches being empty whereas under the current system these pitches will be able to be filled. What you might get is pitch 20 empty on Monday, pitch 30 on Tuesday and pitch 40 on Wednesday but if pitches are open to all these could have been filled.
This would increase costs and mean even more problems booking pitches so to me it is a non starter.

but probably starting fixed days? ie Sat Sat, Sat - Tues, Tues - Sat? or you pick when you arrive when you want exactly like a club site?
On these 250 chalets do 10 occupants arrive Sat, 6 leave Sat? 38 arrive Sun Day, 50 leave? ...Thais what a club site has to do

I don't know for certain and just a guess. In the last 20 years I have only booked to stay on a site for a week or more at Christmas and, probably 10 years ago for a fortnight when I wanted a total rest from a very stressful period and had plenty of time owed from work.
However when I had children, much earlier, although we toured and weekended we would stay on a particular site regularly for a full week. Actually not true as we would usually stay 9 nights

agree completely.

What maybe a better idea for those that use club sites a lot is starting earning 'touring miles' or points from your visits ? Like the frequency flyer programmes from the big airlines or nectar point Salisbury's. Collect enough and earn an upgrade to a service pitch, or a free night away?
Just an idea

yes, except that the club doesn't need to get people back from other 'organisations' . Try booking a site somewhere popular in peak.

Could also suggest that with the rapid increase of motorhomes in the membership this becomes increasingly important as they would join all those fellow caravaners who prefer to tour around club sites rather than stay on just one site for the duration of their holiday.
Maybe this is part of the vision for the future of our touring club!

David - as I said on that thread, if you're driving over a thousand miles and planning to stay on the same site for 5 or 6 weeks, I can see why you'd want to chose a pitch, particularly if you've been to that site before. But that hardly applies to CC sites does it?

If Club sites were genuine "Touring" sites then it would seem reasonable not to take pitch reservations, however, based on my limited experience the sites are nearly always full in the warmer months so you need to book. You can't just turn up. So, if you have to book ahead then reserving a specific pitch should be an option, albeit with a service charge.

Yes, many of the sites will be booked up during the summer months. However, these I'm sure will be booked up by a mixture of one nights, 2 nights, 5 nights or 21nights, whatever. When fully booked they will be fully booked!
When we go on tour we book up well in advance on the sites along our route, very rarely these days will we chance it. Yes, the much loved system many of us enjoy still lends itself to tourning unlike the commercial ones where one or even two night bookings are rarely if ever really catered for in advance. Long may the touring aspect remain in our club even though today it needs careful planning.

by when they should do you mean those who stay without the warden's permission or extra payment? (like JS that's what I do)

Yes, that's what we do too, and all according to the rules!
However, back on topic, long may the ability to book 1 or 21 nights, or any number in between and choose pitch on arrival continue, it works and is in keeping with the touring ethos of our club!
