Booking a pitch

My wife and I holiday in broadway about 2 or 3 times a year, we consider these hols part of our main holidays in the year. I think if you book 7 nights or more on a site that you regularly return to you should be able to book your preferred pitch. Would like to hear other people's views on this?

My view? I totally disagree. If you want a specific pitch try a commercial site perhaps.

I am not in favour of this idea.

Can you please explain what you mean by a commercial site?

Nope, drm, it's first come, first served.

Why on earth would you think that using the site 2-3 times per year should entitle you an advantage over the rest of us? Don't forget that every advantage to one is a disadvantage to others and this is a club where we are all treated equally.

A privately run site open to the general public. One run as a profit making business whether it be by the likes of Haven or a smaller family concern.

Maybe as I do over a hundred nights a year on CC sites I should also have preferential treatment?

Maybe the OP is wanting to be sure of a hard standing. I beleive that the C&CC allow you to book a hard standing pitch as do some commercial sites

I just put a thought out there for grown up discussion??? It's the first time I've used this forum and I thank you for the warm welcome!,

You asked for an opinion drm. You got an opinion or three plus suggestions that might help.

    Welcome to the forum

    Yes, welcome, drm.

Let me put you in the picture here. We see numerous people join the club, which means they agree to abide by the rules of the club, then as soon as they get a foot in the door they decide the rules don't suit them personally so seek to change things to suit themselves without a thought as to how it might affect others.

In my eyes you were asking for a privilege on the grounds of being a regular user of the site. By seeking that privilege you deprive others of choice. It is not equality.

As for my comment about the warden cleaning the van etc, you should look at the smileys. It was an extreme tongue in cheek example.

I agree with Husky, posted a bit early.

Why do folk keep wanting to make the CAMC the same as other organisations. If it's not pitch choice, it will be let's have deposits. These options are out there if you want them. For me the differences are the reason I choose club sites over others. Remove them and the reason disappears. I'm sure I am not alone.

Sounds OK to me - been doing that for years on privately owned sites.

    Leave as is for me!

The C&MC is a touring club. Thank goodness it stands different from the commercial sites which offer this facility. That pick on arrival works just fine in my opinion and fair to each and every member. On the very rare occasion we have stayed for more than a few nights we have been known to change pitches when one we considered 'better' for us became vacant. It works!

I think that DRM made a very valid suggestion. He wasn't asking for anything special - I presume the ability to book a specific pitch would apply to all members (but only if they wished to do so) and therefore would be fair to all.

DRM - you will find that there are a few regular posters on here that will jump all over you and try to bully you if you dare to suggest something that they don't like. Ignore them and continue to make valid suggestions.

I totally agree that there should be an option to book specific pitches. I think there should be a small additional charge for this and that it should be optional.

The problem as proved on busy uk sites is when do you "reserve" the pitch from which i understand was one of the problems with the hardstand booking experiment, when pitches were left empty waiting for the next booking, and others wanting that pitch for up to 21nights

Then it's just as with site booking availability.....if you want something specific - book early!

I see on the news page that the club is going to trial giving those with awnings priority and to be able to book a specific pitch.

That's a little unfair, no one has jumped on anybody! Just stated opinion which may be different of course. Stating alternative views is surely helpful isn't it?

As far as fairness is concerned, no one should given preference when staying more nights! That would be an unfair arrangement in my opinion and would only suit a section of the membership not all!

Secondly, how should this loyalty be measured, in how many visits a year, how many night stayed, how many years membership? No preferential treatment should be shown, we are all members!

    what?

I missed out the part about the club giving out free awnings with the new logo large on the front panels -  just think how the glow from the awning heaters will make it look.

Nobody jumped over anybody IMO. They simply gave their (frank and unvarnished) views as requested.

I can't understand the desire to book a specific pitch. It would further complicate the situation on frenzy day, not that that would affect us, but given the number of adverse comments every year it's surely something best avoided. And the case has already been demonstrated on another similar thread (by Tammygirl if memory serves) that it would probably result in many pitches remaining vacant while waiting for that specificbooking.

As far as Broadway is concerned, all the pitches are pretty similar aren't they? It's not exactly the sort of site where you sit around for hoursadmiring the views!

Again, just my opnion, not jumping on or trying to "bully" anyone!

I totally agree that there should be an option to book specific pitches. I think there should be a small additional charge for this and that it should be optional.

Ian as booking a specific pitch would make it much more difficult to fill the availability holes, I think that the additional charge would have to be a reasonable size, to offset potential losses. At least a nights fee for 2, which equates to £34.60 at Chatsworth peak.     Any takers?
