I'll nibble.... that is all very well and good Corners, but it is loss of revenue to the Club not only in subscriptions but in use of services. I know someone else who has done the same and while they have retained CMC membership in the short term, the majority of away day expenditure this year is not with the CMC.

Its not all tenters joining the "Friendly Club"

I know a few as well and if we can get a decent insurance deal elsewhere we're off too.

The club just doesn't deliver what I want from a modern leisure organisation and the way they behaved over the promotion of sites (including Broadway) for redevelopment doesn't sit well with me at all

My guess the club will end like SAGA, sold off to an Investment trust t0 exploit  the Insurance and other markets, dropping the touring bit. I guess I will have left by then.

I know nothing of this. Has it passed me by? Any links or info?

I'll have to google for the original thread but Savills acting for the CC promoted at least three sites for redevelopment for residential purposes as part of the local plan process. The sites I found were Broadway, Minehead and Cadeside.

Here's a letter to be going on with

It was claimed that Savills were acting outside their instruction. The chairman claimed to know nothing about it. A letter was sent to the councils to say they had no plans to develop the sites but the planning inspector wasn't provided with a copy so I put that right and linked him to the thread

As it's an area that I have expertise spanning many years my view remains that the scenario put forward by the club was unlikely

Thanks Jay. Either the club is playing fast and loose or has incompetent/unprincipled agents

I've always found Savills to be worthy opponents ET. I've always held them in high regard

It would be a loss if club sites pitches weren't in such demand. How many complain on here that they can't get the site/date/pitch they want as the sites are full?

Also if someone really does base their choice to leave the club on re branding/COTY... rather than actually what happens on site or the booking system or any club service then they are quite swallow to begin with.

What matters to me is the excellent quality of my stay away.

Those are good reasons to leave, you are personally affected by something so you perhaps leave. But the rebrand? COTY, magazine? logo?

Why spend money on rebranding when some sites need updating. Because of price increases we are joining the Camping and Caravan Club so we have other options.
April has seen price hypes for all of the month and not just Easter period, so we will not be paying the ridiculous price per night.

What is sad, is the slightly head in the sand attitude of some members  'Never mind that will leave more pitches for us" etc.

All very funny I'm sure, but if the exodus to the other club does become more than just a few, then there is a real issue on management here.

Someone has said, - quite rightly I believe, that this has not been a good period for the club!   And I would suggest that that is a true statement!  What on earth are the board playing at? Why all of this sudden upheaval?    Again some will say "what upheaval, - as long as I get a pitch I don't care".

Fine I suppose, if getting your pitch is all that matters, but I would have thought that in the long run it is in everyones interest that the CC thrives for those that will follow on.

What I do is as yet undecided but the other club does get more attractive as time passes.

We know that caravans and motor caravans as well as trailer tents, are welcome in the ccc but as their core buisiness is tents and the "cool" thing to do for young  families mostly it seems because its costs about 75% cheaper to set up and keep ,and with their far larger network of sites taking tents, then the cc have a very steep uphill struggle to compete, and the latest ,rebrand has not helped

I'm a member of the other club currently and whilst there are things about the booking system I don't like they are yet to irritate me to the extent this club does.

It really is down to the insurance price and the ease of booking for me.

They may as well have said during the rebrand 'We don't know what the new generation of explorers look like but we know it's not JayEss'.

I spotted someone saying that the chairman wasn't aware of negativity about the rebrand because he doesn't read CT.  That's fair enough but he should jolly well be asking for a report on comments made - both for and against. Or perhaps there's an instruction that only good news gets reported upwards.

To be frank the other club is no better to me just different. It does not major on tents, though although you will find them mixed in on most sites. It is also losing sites, although not as many, but it had less to start with. It does have a franchise system which seems to work well and the club should be looking at this as an alternative to the AS sites which seem to be no more than a revenue stream and a pretence that there are more club sites than there are.

Joining any camping club is such an old fashioned concept that it's safe to say that neither club is cool

I agree but Camping in tents for young families on ever tighter budgets seems to be the cool thing now,or the sensible ones anyway ,not sure about, the "must have everything sod the expence"families,in the old days it used to be "keeping up with the Joneses"

I noticed too that price is Hyped for all of this month i would have gone away today but not paying peak season rates now as well as at Easter I not get any member benefits from the club as they wont insure me but the problem with other other club is they only have 1 site here in Yorkshire whereas CMC has lots one in particular I can't go to as it's always full so looks like I'm stuck here ,commercial sites are no good to me as it's usually all in one price caravan 2 adults 2 kids for X number of pounds being single it can be dear ,but if a lot of folk are as unhappy as everyone says they are the majority are putting up with it you only have to look on Late availability for Easter to see how many sites are FULL !!!

It is strange that you define Exodus, as currently a few !  An exodus usually refers to a mass departure of people, are you in politics? news reading?wink

That's quite a big if in your sentence, but of course there no 'evidence' what so ever that if is or will ever happen, unless you call one or two people saying they know someone who is leaving or they themselves are leaving (for quite good reasons) on here as evidence? The reality is that sites are fullish over peak and more than one or two complaining that they can't get pitches. see page 8 of booking a pitch just posted today:

    Can I book a pitch in Shropshire/Worcester????

    Can I heck as like

many of the sites will be booked up during the summer months.

I agree with your sentiments as I've been a member of 18, and you mention some good examples but I'm still staying in great sites despite the main gripes of this thread which is all to do with stuff that doesn't affect what happens on sites.

There would be an increase in the number of pitches available if this Club would invest and take shares in existing sites and CLs which need capital to grow. That's how small businesses are regularly financed. Ever watched Dragons Den?

"So why are the club just allowing AS sites access to us lot instead of providing sites themselves?"

Maybe because it's much more difficult than people think to acquire land for new sites and even more difficult to get planning permission. I see no issue with AS sites. The Club get a fee for including them in the site directory and members usually get a small discount. No one is forced to use them? Seems a win, win to me?

there are actually only 2 sites shut in Yorkshire Knaresborough and Wharfedale but as Castleton is shut too that means less spaces so all others are full

For somebody in a reasonable job that might be twice their wage. For some 3 times. My debt at 23 was 4 tines my income before tax and so I assume that £30k does not include mortgage
