I'm with Ian on this. There's a clear demand to book specific pitches. It may not be sizable but people want the option. Other providers can do it so it's time for the club to modernise their approach and deliver what the new generation of adventurers want.

Pitches lying empty is not our problem. It's an operational issue that needs to be managed by those who manage.

I think the idea of "older" membership given priority over all others gets my vote , i can sit backon "frenzy day" and book any of the "honey pots" at any time winkcool

Jay - is there really a clear demand to book specific pitches? Pitch type yes, but I've seen no evidence of large numbers of folk wanting to bag pitch number 52 et all!

Steve, I think you've realised that Ian has made a 180° turn from his long held and oft stated view that arrivals should be free to choose from all available pitches. I was puzzled by that and it can only be due to either a genuine change of view, or a desire to take the opposite stance from the majority of us, or .... the date.

Do you use CC sites much Jay? In busy times pitch bookings would definitely result in empty pitches that are locked due to somebody having booked and no one wanting a fit.

The CC claimed that being able to book hardstanding caused confusion!! OK we know that was not the real reason for abandoning it.

I would have thought turning up not knowing what your getting is more of an adventure. I'm against it.

I didn't say there were large numbers M but there is a clear demand for booking pitches. At least two on this thread, three if you include me who just wants HS and will go with any plan that lets me get it.

It's mentioned on various FB groups as a desirable feature on sites. How better to attract the new generation of adventurers than to give them what they want?

Hmmm so to take advantage you now want us to stay 2 weeks on a site? Cannot see why it would bother you with a one night a year usage of CC sites and your professed dislike of them.

I just phoned the pub to book lunch for four tomorrow and asked for the table in the window at 1pm.

Did they say We won't let you in before 12 and  you must queue up outside with the others and race them for the window table?  Or did they say say Yes, of course sir?

This Club needs to start to learn an awful lot about customer service.

I am all in favour of a choice of pitch type. Just not an individual pitch.

I think the word "confusion" was used to highlight the fact that members not booking a hardstand were giving the site staff "problems"when pitches were empty for several days waiting for the "booking" to arrive

I've used CC sites a lot ET but this year I'm using another provider.

I don't really care whether pitches lie empty or not. Chances are that they won't because most people won't pay for a specific pitch and will take pot luck.

The likely issue is that it will result in a moan fest because a pre booked pitch will somehow become more desirable than an available one

I still don't think that empty pitches is our problem. We are customers. It's the club's problem

In the scenario some want, it makes for much easier for booking specific pitches, apart from a few cc sites in the uk that need "help" with filling pitches,, have seasonal or part seasonal pitches, the sites are for touring, and despite how some try to make out , it is still possible to "turn up" at a lot of sites for a few days when touring

We have booked a chalet holiday this june ,and when I booked it I asked if we could have the chalet we had 2 years ago , there answer was " if its available of course you can ", these seem to be words unknown to the CC

Not entirely fair, when booking a holiday cottage or chalet it's usually a set date ie Saturday to Saturday, is that the case with you? also I doubt if the company your dealing with has over 100 chalets (some sites have over 200 pitches) to deal with and people arriving and departing in their tens if not hundreds on a daily basis?

So, the difference is that our club is a network of sites not just one site. That is a big plus and draw for me and I'm sure many fellow members too. The suggestion is that preference be given to long stayers but if you spend 21 consecutive nights on one site and I spend 21 consecutive nights on several club sites whilst on my tour both of us should be treated alike in my opinion. In fact everyone, I reckon, should be treated alike regardless of how many nights booked! Thankfully that's the way it is and I'm sure will stay in this touring club of ours.

All we have got is a new Club title, a new logo, and the same old hidebound way of working. Long live the twelve o'clock rush.

Yes but you cannot book a 5 days stay, 2 days stay, 6 days stay etc and the dates are to suit their system based on a week. Not much use to many CC members then
