Summer holiday in The Black Forest
Has anyone holiday'd in the Black Forest? We're looking to take our caravan from Calais, with our pooch. I'd like to know if there is anything I should know or what it's like. Thanks.

We have been several times over the years and stayed at several different sites. Its a very attractive part of Germany although having said that a lot of Germany is attractive. We have explored a fair slice of Germany from the Black Forest to the Baltic Coast and Berlin. I have several travel blogs of our travels here which might give you a few ideas. http://www.davidklyne.co.uk/travels_in_europe.htm
These are the sites we have stayed at in the Black Forest but there are many, many more.

Margaret I can give you a route down to the Black Forest with campsites en route that we always use from Calais. We have been visiting the Black Forest for over 35 years now last 13 years with the caravan and have a lot of info on my website http://www.joysofeuropeancaravanning.co.uk
We have stopped at four different sites in the BF two which we prefer are
http://www.trendcamping.de/index.php?article_id=6&clang=1
and
http://www.alisehof.de/en/home.html
The reason we like these two sites is they are both situated in a lovely area near the old town of Wolfach and in the centre of the Black Forest for touring. Both sites are first class the first has a very nice restaurant. Both take ACSI CC out of season and give you the Konus Card for free transport in the BF plus discount on places of interest.
If you would like any more info email me by my address on my website.

I stayed at Trendcamping on Dianne's recommendation last September and really enjoyed the area. The local towns and villages are a delight. Plenty of walks from site. Facilities are excellent. Owners are lovely and bar/restaurant very good. If I recall they also accept credit cards. I would stay again when in the area

We've been a number of times and love it. Herbolzheim and Kirchzarten are great sites just not far off the motorway. lots to see and do and even a short hop into Switzerland, especially from Kirchzarten.
Depending upon which port you arrive at we've overnighted at Larochette in Luxembourg, Leiwen near Trier on the Moselle and Burg Lahneck just south of Koblenz.
Enjoy!

Hi Margaret
We too have stayed at Trendcamping and Camping Ailsehof, both of which were very good.
Also stayed at Höhencamping Königskanzel, which is in Dornstetten where we had a huge pitch! (The bathroom facilities on these sites are among some of the best you will come across) The site was lovely and quiet but no restaurant to speak of which meant we ventured out into Freudenstadt and surrounding ares where we found some lovely restaurants.
There is so much to see and do, so many beautiful little villages and miles of walks and cycle tracks for you to explore - bet you go back there again!
Enjoy

Last year we stayed at Terrassencamping Sandbank
It is a terraced site with good views over lake Titisee and easy walking/cycling into the village of the same name that has lots going on including shopping and eating places.
Takes ACSI but you may overlap into high season, only about 25km east(ish) of the lovely town of Freiburg and very close to the Feldburg area. It was here that we and our dog took the lift up to the mountain top where the views are spectacular and the walking trails in abundance.
The enclosed ski lift (dogs go free)
View of the Alps from the top
Another view from the top looking NE

Margaret depending on what time of the day you are starting from Calais if late in the day this is a good stop just off the Brussels Ring Road, not Camping Card but not expensive, may be a good idea to email before to check on availability as it does get busy.

If early you can make this stop near to Bitburg. If more than a night here plenty to see Luxembourg 20 mins away The Mosel and Trier less than an hour away. Takes ACSI CC. Excellent Restaurant and Toilet facilities.
Easy trip to Wolfach from here. Photo's and Reviews on here
