£12 does not seem a lot either way to me in the grand scheme of things. How is the ratio of CC sites to C&CC sites I wonder and also with regard to the ratio of CL and CS sites. That would also be a relevant point for me if joining a club as well as site standards.
The C&CC temporary holiday sites are doubtless good value for some but would never have appealed to me as I do not head for a particular site but for a series of locations

Exactly this is the way we started many years ago tent, trailer tent and finally caravan but according to someone I spoke to on the CC sorry C&MC stand at the NEC about the changes he suggested couples with young families will be buying motorhomes because of the 1997 car licence changes

That is just what, probably the same person said to us,but had no answer when questioned as to where, they they were going to keep it, as most houses built in in the last 30yrs or more have a problem with parking a car let alone a motor caravan, and where is the finance for the £30,000 plus leisure vehicle, plus annual storage, £600 where we live

The chap from Spinney Caravans said the same thing with regard to motorhomes being sold to younger folk, at the Midlands Question time. Apparently most were being sold under this new type of payment plan which started with cars - where you pay a sort of hire fee for the first x number of years and at the end of the contract have the option of buying or returning the vehicle - I've forgotten the acronym and what it stands for, but when I remember I'll edit the post.

Except in our case we already had a suitable car for towing when we bought our first caravan. We bought a bigger caravan later and a slightly more powerful car, but it was time for a new car anyway. If you buy a motorhome, you still need a car at home.

Not necessarily all depends how far the shops are away and what public transport is like. In any case a run around costing under £8K new with low road tax is all that is required. I have a Suzuki Celerio hatchback, seats 5 and has a large boot.

When with a big rally last month ,it is what several ralliers were saying, that their children and grandchildren were doing as they could not afford the set up and running costs of c/vans or m/vans and as the cc have only limited sites with tent pitches, one stated that their granddaughter had joined the ccc and tenting is the cool thing to do, and dealers will say what they think is "appropriate"at the time
Ps but i bet the not"cash strapped " these days are few compared to how it is spelt out by the majority

The youngsters I know through our own family are either buying tents or converting vans. It doesn't seem to matter whether they are high wage earners or not, they seem to enjoy taking their families to basic sites, or sites with extras like a theme park or festivals. I don't think the average regimented CMC site has much appeal. They don't mind visiting us if we're on one but they won't be staying.

It very much depends where you do your research. If you concentrate your research on those that actually buy motorhomes rather than those that just talk about it you get an entirely different perspective. The Bailey Motorhome Owners group has about 1500 members. It is clear from what is posted on there that there are plenty of people in their 40's and 50's, ie still at work who are buying motorhomes. For many it is their first introduction to camping, unlike here where many have progressed from tents to caravans and then to motorhomes. What is also interesting is that a fair proportion of them don't know anything about our Club so it seems the management have some basis to their assertion that many motorhomers don't automatically think about joining.

That is a failing on the part of CC management then. Before now, probably 20 years ago I picked up a second hand caravan from Harringtons (as was). There were brochures on display for the CC. I would have though that the club could have done a deal with the major dealers to display their stuff. Maybe even a deal with the manufacturer of new models to include a free club membership as part of the package.
That would serve more purpose than a name change

- Are you talking about the Bailey owners club?and from the posts and as any "survey"" gets answers to the way the questions are skewed to get the answers they want ,where as the conversations between the real customers gets a more balanced reply,
- ps our friends have a Bailey motor caravan and the only other club that they looked at for their mark was a "truckers club?"

OH is on the landline to our retired warden friends, and they know i come on here "laughter from them", they have just reminded that in the past wardens were given a financial incentive to join non members to the cc and they think it was the same for dealerships , but it went when "Marketing at Grimstead" decided it was not needed,so who pushes membership now,,maybe the ccc have a system in place?

Sorry I should have made it clear that it's the Bailey Motorhome Owners Facebook group which is a closed group which I imagine can't be accessed if you are not a member. So nothing to do with the Baileys Owners Club. My comments were my observations of reading and contributing to the group over the last couple of years.

This was followed by the change to the website that is acknowledged as being pathetic and not fit for purpose - but with no apparent 'repairs' to it other than a very rapid change of club name.
I think that the CC is too busy with posting on faceache to trouble with this site

I think Facebook is the preferred social media site for the club. The staff can handle it more easily and control responses, forums can be much more tricky. The club Facebook users certainly get responses. It would be interesting to know whether it encourages new members and potential van buyers or just provides a social contact point. No doubt looking at the "hits" is part of the statistics.

And according to todays paper? there is going to be one big bang soon, because of the burgeoning financial problems the younger generation of "must haves"are building for themselves with the "help to buy " being exploited by builders making it worse
