Aire on A26

Does anyone know of an Aire on the A26 towards Reims similar to the one at Baie de Somme? We will be arriving in France at about 8pm and would like to get 50/60 miles in before stopping. Alternatively, has anyone used a site that is ok with units arriving at about 9.30-10pm just off the same autoroute?

    ronhub, I don't know what is special, (if anything), about Baie de Somme aire but there are many aires along the A26, from memory, about 20 - 25km apart. About every forth one is a fuel station / restaurant.

    The Baie de Somme has a dedicated caravan area and is patrolled by the police. I have stayed on it several times and have always felt very comfortable and secure. 

    It may be that there is nothing like it on the A26 in which case I hope someone may know of a site that meets my needs. Otherwise I will stop near Calais for the night.

    To my knowledge there is no Aire on the A26 like Baie de Somme - it seems to be a one off.  As said above there are many Aires on this route but  opinion is divided about whether to stay overnight on them, personally I probably wouldn't.  We have stayed at campsite Vivier aux Carpes several times - it is about 10k south west of St. Quentin, staff speak English and it's possible to book or phone to check about late arrivals, however it might be further than you want to travel.  There are many sites around Calais, a copy of CMC sites abroad (France) is a good buy if you haven't already got it.

    Yes, Vivier aux Carpes is just a tad too far. I'm juggling the miles a bit in that I'm heading for a site in Burgundy which is over 350 miles from Calais and I try to limit the distance I travel in one day to 280/300 miles. If I could get 50 or 60 miles under my belt before stopping it would make the following day a bit easier. If not I will stop near Calais and either bite the bullet or do it in two short hops. My time in France is limited this year so I want to make my travelling as efficient as possible.

    We used to stop at Aire de Souchez, one hour from Calais then we switched to Aire Baralle, about one hour fifteen from Calais not far from the Arras motorway crossroads. Dedicated caravan area and showers in the service station. Sometimes the caravan area was full (around midnight) so we stopped in the lorry area. Kids were fine and we all used to sleep well but it is just a standard Aire although 24 hour services. Never bothered us but some may not be comfortable  

    From there you can get to Burgundy next day. We used to stay at Sennecy le Grand, near Tournus.

    Thanks Hitchglitch. Now you have mentioned the names I think those aires are the ones I have heard suggested before. With those and David's sites we have a few options.
