Hi all

We are traveling form Calais to Domme in the Dordogne in early June (2 adults 1 dog 1 caravan) and we are looking for a 1 night stop over on route. We would be looking to do about 260 miles to the stop over point from Calais. Any advise on the best route to take and stop over recommendations would be greatly appreciated .

Thanks

You can go via Le Mans and stop over at Camping Le Vieux Moulin, or you can go via Orleans and stop over at Camping Olivet. Both are at the half way point and both are worth a second night to visit the town. So perhaps go one way and come back the other and see which you prefer. Take care.

PS .  And you can spend about 90 euros each way on tolls to go quickly, or avoid the toll roads and take longer. As you wish.

But check.   Camping Vieux Moulin opens "in June" so if you are at Le Mans  before their opening date there is also Camping Pont Romain close to the city.

    Hi,

We stopped at Camping La Grande Sologne in Nouan-le-Fuzilier, about 280 miles from Calais and about 240 from Domme, from where we had come (staying at Camping Perpetuum). The site at Nouan is used to one night stopovers and speak excellent English. Use the route down through Rouen to Chartres and then pick up the A71 near Orleans before joining the A20 down to Dordogne. If you can manage an extra few miles on the way down you could stay at Camping de Sologne at Salbris, an easier stopover as quite close  to the motorway exit. Another nice site.

If you are staying at Perpetuum then take an ACSI card as the saving will more than offset the cost.

We've used both of the sites recommended by Wherenext several times. Both great for a stopover although we prefer La Grande Sologne. A bit more spacious.

I've used the Camping Municipal at Beaumont sur Sarthe (on A28 just before Le Mans) many times when going South. As thomag said, lovely little riverside site, quiet, inexpensive and immaculate facilities. 250 miles from Calais.

There's also the equally fine Camping Municipal at quaint medieval Fresnay sur Sarthe fairly close to the Beaumont site.
