Green Card in Germany

This year we are going to Germany. I am looking at page 261 of Part 1 of the ACSI 2017 Camping Card book.  It says 'take note you will need a green card for your car and another for your caravan". If my caravan policy covers me for continental travel is this enough or do I need a separate document?

    Hi Arthur

    So long as both your car and caravan have insurance for travelling to Europe then you don't need a green card. You must take proof of the insurance with you whilst travelling. I would also recommend informing your insurance provider the countries you plan to visit.

    As you are travelling to Germany please take note of the Environmental Badge now required in a lot of their cities.

    As far as I am aware though, many policies only cover third party liability, unless a green card is obtained to extend this to comprehensive levels.

    If you do get a green card you should tell your insurer you are towing and this will be noted on the green card.

    We have C&MC Insuarance for Car which covers 6 months in Europe along with the Caravan too.  Competitive Prices for both with excellent quick service if you need to claim.

    My insurance says:

    This policy gives you and anyone entitled to drive the car under the current certificate of motor insurance the full cover shown in the schedule in any country in the territorial limits.

    The current insurance certificate is evidence that you have the cover needed by law, you do not need a green card or bail bond.

    Have a read a your own insurance policy.
