Just noticed that this has vanished off the club network.  Does anyone know if the Jockey Club intend to run the site themselves?

When this was discussed a few weeks back I contacted the JC. I received an email from them saying the caravan site will cease to operate permanently.

    It's a great shame.

Oh dear, thats very sad indeed. I grew up less than half a mile from that course & used the site to re visit from time to time.

I suppose no one knows why and I guess the Club is not going to tell Us?

When we stayed there late last season there seemed to be alterations starting. The rail between track and cvan site was down and we got the impression it was being moved. Had we known closure was imminent, we would have asked the warden about it.

I guess the lease was up but the JC didn't give any clues in their email only that closure is permanent. I made them aware that many people use the site and it could bring income to the JC if they continued to operate it.

Such a pity to loose yet another site. BTW did you ask the JC if they intended closing any other of their race course sites, TW?

No I didn't, Nellie. The person I emailed was specifically connected with Wincanton.

I wonder, is it just the sites with grass only pitches and no chance of putting in hard standings or making improvements that are being allowed to disappear.

Shame this lovely site has gone. JC are in a bit of turmoil at moment, even considering losing Kempton Park, home of some of the biggest and most famous steeplechase races. Not all racecourses are owned and run by JC, so fingers crossed. Hexham came off the Club network a long time ago, but is now a thriving site booked direct, offering a camping area as well. Exeter is JC owned, lovely site, hope this doesn't go. Market Rasen and Warwick are JC as well, and Cheltenham. Fakenham isn't and has lovely rail side pitches.

I think I'm right in saying that the Warwick site which is on part of Warwick Common is leased from the local council. They control planning on the ancient common (St Mary's Lands.)
