Plan to explore a bit of Holland for the first time on the way back from Moselle to Hook of Holland in September. Would like to visit some interesting towns and Gouda, Delft and Leiden look promising. Are they good choices? Are there other must-see places? And have members any recommended sites handy for those towns, preferably ACSI?

    It all depends what you want to see and do - palaces, museums, art galleries, canal boat tours,  brown cafes, rijsttafel restaurants, and the Heineken brewery tour. All of those are on offer in Amsterdam, and there are several campsites around the city to choose from. We went to Gaasper Camping, within walking distance of the Metro, but there are other sites.

    No, have done Amsterdam years ago and wanted to explore smaller, interesting towns on way back from Germany to Hook that have little waterways, quaint buildings, museums etc and are in proximity to recommended camp sites.

    In that case Enkhuisen is worth a visit - there's a choice of two campsites, one simple, one elaborate. There's  the open air Zuiderzee museum with old houses and shops re built on site (and don't miss hot smoked kippers straight out of the tin barrel), old steam trains up and down the coast, sailing boats, a drive over the big dike where dozens of storks are nesting, and on the other side the shipyard at Lelystad where they build big replica wooden boats from the old Dutch East India company. There's another good campsite on that side too, called T'Opertje, but I can't pronounce it.

    Zwolle is an interesting town, the market on Saturdays is worth a visit too. There's a good site at a marina on the outskirts of the town (Nautica Marine or something similar). Taking your bike to Holland is a must.

    Thanks ET and DN for the above suggestions. Sound like good places to visit if I do an extended trip of Holland in the future. But they are both topside of Amsterdam and this September I was thinking of concentrating on the stretch of the country from Eindhoven to The Hague before catching the ferry home from the Hook of Holland.

    There's a very interesting open air museum at Arnhem, which is adjacent to the Hoge Veluwe National Park. We stayed there a couple of years ago. We used DroomPark De Zanding at Otterlo, which is one of those sites which hasn't yet escaped from the Camping Cheque system, it's a huge site with a lot of accomodation units as well as pitches, but the pitches were in a pleasant area with lots of trees and separation. The national park entrance is within walking distance and contains the Kroller-Muller museum and Het Loo palace. There are free cycles to use in the park.

    Hi

    We used Delft Houte when we visited the Keukenhof Gardens a couple of years back.  Very convenient for town, bus outside site, easy walking distance to town and also railway station as well.  Really enjoyed our stay and the staff were very very helpful.

    We were lucky enough to book on a coach tour from the campsite as well which took us to the Flower Parade, bulbfields and The Hague.  Two lovely coachdrivers who treated us all like friends.

    Delft is a nice town, and with your request for ACSI sites, Delftse Hout accepts the ACSI card. From the site you can walk or cycle into Delft. Gouda and Leiden are also nice, so if you haven't been to any of those before, then they are all good choices, and also on the route you are taking back to the ferry.
