Confused by Camping Cheques
Looking to buy Camping Cheques for my holiday I am realy confused On 1 site it tells me that camping cheques are £15.95 per cheque , Not a problem as this is how i have purchased them in the past, Just loaded the requiered number on my Silver card. The same web site tells me that i can pay in Euroes And how many euroes do i want to put on my card. It also appeares that site are now rated as 15€ 17€ 19€ but there is no indication of prices on the search camping sites.. Can somebody explain

My understanding is that Camping Cheques have changed their system starting in 2017. The campsites in the scheme are now in three price bands. When you load your card it is my understanding that you now load a monetary value to your card which is then deducted depending on the price band of the site you are using. I think the £15.95 per cheque refers to buying paper cheques from the club and is at the higher end of the cost per night depending on the exchange rate at the time of stay but still accepted at all campsites regardless of price band.

Yes ACSI is better but the camping cheque offer when purchased with the afternoon crossing from Portsmouth to Caen means that you can afford to throw away the camping cheques if you don't want to use them. You will have saved a pile of money.

I'm intrigued by what this offer actually is.
Qashqai66 - what exactly do you mean by 'afternoon' crossing? It seems there are only two options, one that leaves in the morning arriving in afternoon. Or an overnight crossing.
I tested the former ( as that seemed to me to be closest to an afternoon crossing ) here on the CCMH site, and went right through to the end, but the total price just added up the separate costs of ferry and camping cheques. Nothing 'free'.
i note Deleted User User quoted 'sometimes' gets fare reduced. Is the 'sometimes' transparent? Or is it pot luck?

IanTG, camping cheques (now campingtravelclub,com) have re-invented themselves for 2017 as pointed out above, by now having 3 price bands for the sites in the network. If you had some cheques on your Silver or Gold card prior to Dec 31st 2016 (£15.95 form the club - 16 euros face value), these are being honoured, on campsites in 2017,regardless of whether a site is banded as 15, 17 or 19 euros.
From now on, as has been said, the card is basically a cash card that you recharge with money, to allow you to pay the campsites.
Also, as of 2017, I believe the caravanclub has less involvement, and can only supply paper cheques, and these have a 12 month validity, rather than the 2 yrs they used to have.
As David said, there is a benefit when booking a ferry with the club. As an example, we paid about £180 for a Portsmouth - Caen return crossing, sailing out at 14.45 22nd April, and returning on an 8.30 sailing in June

Hi, in regard to getting an ITX the amount of discount will depend when you go, on which route and at what time.
Also prices can vary for what appear to be similar outfits on the same crossing as the 'discounted' places get used up, for our route there is a caravans go free offer.
We are the same as AD, we get cheques, have an ACSI card and stay at sites that take neither as we feel this gives us a good choice.
As mentioned ACSI has far more sites in its scheme but, for us, the savings achieved by getting an ITX fare are substantial.
Our trip in May/June on BF Roscoff to Plymouth booked direct with BF is £633.
The ferry portion of our ITX deal is £241.90 and even if we 'binned' the chaques we would still be saving app £200.

The afternoon crossing is at 14:45 but doesn't run every day (I think Wednesday is one day it doesn't). We get excellent value on this - for example, our trip this year will be £360 return and that includes a large cabin in both directions. IIRC the actual ferry cost is around £280 and that includes 7 camping cheques!
Much cheaper and they'd be paying us to go.
The only slight problem with that crossing is that it arrives at 21:30 so involves setting up in the dark.

We always travel on the Pont Aven, if possible, so our crossing is actually an overnight on a Thursday but, when booking, I did a comparison and the next day morning crossing was considerably more.
As said before it always pays to check, check and check again as I would have assumed that the overnight would be more.
The prices that I quoted include a 2 berth cabin and we know that the holiday will start on a high with a great meal, comfy cabin and an early start to the first days travel.

Seasonova Riva Bella at Ouistreham is a Camping Travel Club site so you can use your cheques there. If you phone to book ferry you only need to take five cheques. Like Another David says I also use ACSI and other sites which are in the location we want to see.
